Calling someone a douche bag is different than saying they are acting childish.

We just don’t like the name-calling on here (it’s in our rules) because it tends to drop these discussions into anarchy.

So please refrain.

Fair enough. Since you deleted it, I will restate it in a more elegant manner not to offend the delicate sensibilities that Rokslide is known for.
The Roundtable podcast had some valid points as did Matt’s article. To me at least, the pettiness that was very apparent from the start drowned out both parties valid points.
If you don’t want to be called out for acting petty and childish don’t act petty and childish and then put it out as a podcast for millions of people to listen to. It is unbecoming of refined gentleman like ourselves.

Or simply put, if you act a certain way I will tell you you’re acting a certain way and to please stop it you are better than that

Big Tech needs to hurry up with this whole virtual reality thing so we can get all these city slickers back into their city apartments and experiencing “nature” from their google headset!
Agree the Metaverse is our best hope for putting the Genie back in the bottle.

Probably a poor analogy but hey,

actress
[ˈaktrəs]
NOUN
  1. a woman whose profession is acting on the stage, in movies, or on television

If all hunters where actresses its like comparing a Hallmark actress to an adult film star. They're both attractive women using their body in some capacity to make money. Society views 1 as a perfectly acceptable career, the other not so much. Nor does the majority of actresses want pornstars out there recruiting more actresses.

Good analogy. Not taking anything away from some of these guy’s skill, because some of them are good at the technical aspects of hunting. I’d also make a small distinction between a guy that owns a legitimate business as the manufacturer of gear. They do need to have some kind of social media presence to be relevant. How they choose to portray their brand is up them.

But how many “#hunter athletes” do we need? Hyping protein powder and nick nacks, posting videos of themselves in the gym? They are like Derek Zoolander in camo trying to get likes and endorsements. If I had a close friend that did this they would be the punchline to a joke, but on social media they get to be idols.

Try again, see if you can state your opinion with insulting anyone, including Rokslide. The “delicate sensibilities” are what makes this forum different. And most members prefer it stay that way.

The high road on display. I would quote some excerpts from the first 10 minutes but they would get taken down due to language, name-calling, and threatening to make someone look different.

I see a lot of Folks saying Rockslide isn't as bad of a Social Media platform as Instagram or it isn't comparing apples to apples. If that the case then why is everyone on here so worried about posting units or specifics about a Unit? The reason why is if i type "Check out Colorado Unit 1 Giant Bucks" I bet you can google search it and find this post pretty quick if you were a new hunter looking to get the big one. So is it the getting paid part that's the problem or the influx of hunters that can be caused by one single post on a social media platform? I have heard both cases and again I don't use any social media besides here. I think Robby has hinted at the answer quite a few times that they are the same in terms of influence. Just food for thought....

You can’t be serious. Lol I don’t think Aron needs anybody to white knight for him but you were doing an excellent job. I get it he’s your friend but come on

I think the motive of doing it for monetary gain and the lengths gone too is a big part of the strife. It's also a never ending one-up manshipto to out do competing influencers.

Maybe not when forums first started but currently there is a pretty high level of self policing that occurs here. Isn't that basically what Matt is promoting a level of self policing?

No, nothing to do with Aron.
He’s a big boy and fights his own battles.

We just don’t like name-calling on rokslide. Your second post, was much more convincing than your first, I was pointing out that you don’t need to insult us, (and many of our members) to get your point across.

That’s what I’m trying to say.

May seem counterintuitive to some but, instead of swearing off SM, create an account and call the DB's out. Bitching on here won't stop them, maybe a bunch of folks calling them out will. Or possibly slow them down. Sponsors pay attention. If one of their promoters starts receiving a ton of backlash, they're likely to take action.

Rokslide has 53000 users that came here to talk about hunting and moderated by hunting owners. Policed by many users.

Facebook active monthly members are 2.98 Billion owned by people that hate your guts.

Instagram active monthly members 2 Billion owned by the above company.

Youtube has 218 Million Daily users owned by google.

If you can’t see the difference between these “social media’s” by definition I can’t help you.

Obviously social media of all forms is here to stay. What really needs to be discussed as hunters is how do we use it to strengthen us ? And how do we police ourselves so a Cecil the Lion or Petals the Bear incident doesn’t land on us as ridiculous as that is.

The heart of it all, right there.

And to be clear, I do see the difference, but it’s really just one of scale, and who our broader audience might be. Not a lot of nonhunters on Rokslide getting offended at our grip and grins.

It’s just my hypocrisy meter has been pegged lately, so I might be a little sensitive. That’s all. Thanks for your post,

Not true. I'll use myself as an example because I have both the means and the time, and I live in a place where it would be really easy for me to hunt Elk and Deer in three different states within just a few hours of home. I don't though, because I don't want three freezers in my garage, or to get to the point where I'm giving away meat. I would feel really unjustified in hunting if I were giving away meat because I had too much or it was getting too old and freezer burned. Does anyone here buy so many groceries that they literally have to give it away so they can go back to Costco and get more?

To each their own, but to suggest that every hunter would hunt as much as they could if they had the time and money is false, and part of this discussion is about hunters using media to do this while simultaneously profiting from it.

I should’ve said a majority. But these guys that people are complaining about shot multiple animals a year before social media so I’m not getting where social media has this effect on them. If influencers are getting special treatment when buying or applying for tags then I’d say it’s an issue but as far as I know they buy their tags the same as everyone else so they aren’t taking anything from anyone. Sure there are some clowns on social media but they’re pretty easy to pick out and they aren’t shooting multiple animals a year. As far as making a profit people have been making money in the the hunting industry long before social media so why all of a sudden is it a bad thing.
