This is awesome, I'm glad to see you went ahead and did it OP. May you have luck on your side the next 4 years and get them all checked off in one swoop. Just remember to come back and give a recap with pics!
Hey Tom, the bighorn hunt is last, not until 2028. It’s a Cali bighorn hunt in BC. From what the outfitter says, I should have my tag filled in 3 days so long as I can hike a few miles and shoot to 400 yards. How are the bighorn sheep hunt plans coming along? Looking forward to any updates or reports. Happy hunting to all, TheGrayRider a/k/a Tom.
Did he lock in a price or did you send in a deposit to hold your spot?Hey Tom, the bighorn hunt is last, not until 2028. It’s a Cali bighorn hunt in BC. Of the 4, this one appears to be the easiest/highest success rate barring any crazy weather. A far cry from the $100K camping trips people are apparently taking these days in Alberta
Thanks for the update, HornPorn. I already have an AZ DBHS and will be Dall sheep hunting in AK in about 375 days, 11 hours, and 21 minutes - but who is counting. I remain interested in your hunts as far as the planning, logistics, outfitters, terrain, etc.; especially the RMBS hunt and the Stone hunt. What do yo think a grand slam will cost when one or more of the four hunts lead to tag soup after first try.You could do all 4 three years ago for $190K. Now you are looking at $280K. So over the last 3 years, I have already lost $90K, or $30K/year.
7% of 300K is $21,000, which is a savings of $9,000 per year over the current inflation rate in a grand slam. I am going to pay all $300K back in 10, 11 years tops, so by the time I get done paying the loan off, the interest I will have paid will not be significant compared to the savings I will have realized by doing it all in 2025 and 2026 hunting seasons.
What do you a think a grand slam will cost in 2034?
