Another swing and a miss jims? Do you ever stop? Meanwhile, in your home state of Colorado, it's 90/10. So, what are you doing for the NR hunter there?
Let’s all point fingers at what it could be.

Hunter greed is going to destroy current opportunity for everyone. I’m personally sick and tired of all the whining and rule changes to help certain groups, and not just in Wyoming.

If you’re for limiting opportunity at the expense of another I know what side you land on.

GrosVentre, you are correct about sheep, goat, and moose but you are totally in gaw-gaw land for deer, elk, and antelope. You are well aware that Colo offers unlimited elk tags to nonres in the majority of elk units in Colo. To top it off Colo offers 20 to 35% of limited elk, deer, and antelope tags to nonres. Colo is the best deal in the Western US to nonres if you ask me! Just hit a home run!

I could also care less if I draw another big game tag in Wyo. I've had so many great years as both a Wyo res and nonres. What my biggest concern is what exactly is happening to our hunting heritage across the Western US? How many youth living in Kansas or elsewhere through the midwest, east, and south will ever have the opportunities us old farts had growing up? The doors are closing...and closing pretty darn fast.

If I do nothing else with all my posts, at least I'm bringing it to the attention of others. Very sad what is happening if you ask me!

The bulk of the opportunities are going away, folks just need to accept it.

As I was growing up, folks would go elk or caribou hunting once or twice in a lifetime. The idea that you/they/we have to go every year has grabbed a few guys and I can't say I agree. But more power to those who can and do make it happen.

We have too many people and not enough local opportunities anymore - for most of the US. There are still a bunch of states with amazing opportunity, but when you try to divide it among the large number of hunters, it gets pretty slim.

Then you give a resident 4-6-10 tags and the rest of us are waiting for 5+ years to draw. I'd say they already had someone looking after them.

As long as WY is allowing NR I will be applying. I just hope when elk, deer, and antelope go 90/10 everyone puts their money where their mouth is and takes their football to head home.

Just odd how we as Wyoming residents are greedy for wanting more licenses for our residents but the NRs who want our licenses are not greedy or entitled?
Comical. First they are not “your” licenses. They belong to the state. I guess we can consider any state asset our own now though. Sound entitled? The tags given out in my state are not “my or our” tags. They are the states.

I don’t see many non residents asking for more. Would you turn a blind eye and say nothing if the commission decided they were going to go 70/30 instead? After charging you for a system that outlined odds to draw that are now worse.

You sound like the guy who told me I couldn’t keep any fish on his lake because he owns a parcel on it.

What is needed is a Federal Land exemption. Federal land grows animals that need to be distributed equitably to all people who own the land, not just selfish state residents. I know under current doctrine, states own and manage wildlife, but that can be reinterpreted.

Woah, woah woah. Easy bud. Youll piss off the resident public land hunting influencers/advocaTes. They will be in here with 75,000 word essays about the law and regs and how that cant happen. The ones that beat the "we need your money and votes so you have hunting opportunities but dont bother applying for tags" drum. How dare you want western big game hunting opportunities after watching their shows, donating to their causes, and buying the products they push.

Gonna be hard for some of these "conservation organizations" to generate funding when there is no opportunity...

They wanna go to 90/10 fine with me...Gonna be interesting to see how F&G plans to make up the funding deficit. Pittman/Robinson dollars at an all time high and these F&G Dept want to reduce their overall funding, gonna be hard to match P&R to get all those funds back to the state.

I think they already took that into considerarion. Most people think they will still be fine funding wise. If a funding decline happens, it would probably be a long term thing that will be corrected anyhow. Also there is still going to plenty of good opportunities for a lot of species in wyo as a NR. Im still applying. I just like to poke ppl about it.

The fed land thing is interesting to bring. Not a terrible idea.

For the big 5 change i doubt it’s much of a hit to funding, really it’s only 4 since you can’t hunt grizz. Biggest decrease will be a reduction in pref points fees collected, I would think once people realize that it’ll take them 50 yrs to draw they stop playing, even the few that remain will still likely never draw.

Believe the change will increase resident odds 1% or so, not a bing increase in odds for whatever the % increase is, so will see if the funding/opportunity costs are worth it in the end when most residents still won’t be hunting, even if 100% of NR tags were removed it really won’t increase resident odds much.

Truthfully WY should go to a pure random draw for the big 5 for NR and remove pref pts and make it $10 to enter the draw, I’d throw $10 per species to the state knowing I likely will never draw.

Care to refund me for my 18 sheep points?

I know the system is broken, but to penalize me that's played by the rules and participated since nearly the beginning, as well as "invested" in it, is unfair as well.

Going to a $10 entry would make applications skyrocket.

That will have to be something NR with pts take up with the state but your 18yrs is being made almost worthless, would you prefer to keep investing and never draw or substantially reduce your investment and never draw?

It definitely would increase applications, it would be no different then playing the lotto.

What is really penalizing you is the 50% reduction of NR big 5 tags.

Classic “Bait and Switch”

They will cut the number of NR tags and raise the rates to make up the difference.

Soon enough the NR will be gone and the residents can pay all the bills. The outfitters won’t do it and neither will the ranchers. They’ve not gone along with all these great plans “for the kids”.

Be careful what you wish for.

Yeah, that wasn't directed at you, but a rhetorical question.

Yes, the cut does impact my ability to draw, but I'm in the range that will draw, it'll just be a few more years down the road. I'm fine with waiting. Going to a lottery eliminates that guarantee.

IF they go to a 90/10 for DEE then they need to stop the sale of preference points immediately IMO. Turn all preference points to bonus points and let people play the cards they currently have.

I hate it for all of us that are vested in their system but the bottom line is that I wont have any say in what they decide.

I cant wait for the day where the resident tags prices go through the roof $$$$. Its coming....just watching it all unfold. And I WILL laugh in the face of the complainers....Its going to be great.

Be interesting to see if the few years turns to 15+.

The economic impacts to Wyo small town communities and the WG&F are also a reality!
90/10 seems reasonable. The economic impact to northwest Wyoming will be minimal. People will keep coming to Grand Teton and Yellowstone for reasons other than hunting. Unless gas goes to $5.00 a gallon due to Russia/Ukraine. And then having 80/20 hunting would not help us.
