Wyoming G&F, how de we get a voice as NR's?

Here it is.

If you are not a resident of Wyoming, I do not care what you think. I am not a resident of Wyoming, I was born in Wyoming and grew up hunting there until I joined the service over 32 years ago. I still hunt Wyoming as a non-resident when I can draw tags.

Anyone who complains about the non-resident wilderness rule is cry baby who probably doesn't hunt wilderness in their own state. Most use it as a reason to complain about Wyoming.

The wildlife belongs to the state of Wyoming in a trust. The Supreme Court has decided that Wyoming and other states can manage non-migratory wildlife how they wish. So stop crying.

How would you people like it if the people of Wyoming came to your state and demanded 20-40 percent of the tags?

There are states that some species are only open to residents, this is a thing in Nebraska, Kansas and North Dakota.

How would you like it if Wyoming closed all species except elk, deer and antelope to you?

Wyoming is crazy generous to non-residents. Don't be a dick about it, the people of Wyoming are tired of this BS.

If you want to hunt Wyoming, move to Wyoming.

Also know that it is not the paradise you think it is. Wildlife numbers are way down. They have not been good for deer and antelope since 30 years ago.

There is serious competition behind every sage brush. Stop crying.

Isn't quota based on wildlife counts?

So this number is not very relative.

Bad counts lower numbers.

In Montana they don't adjust quotas until 3 or 4 years too late.

At least Wyoming does that right.

My point was it's harder to get tags because the quotas for deer and antelope have been lower due to lower population densities (winter kill). However the number of applications has only increased, mainly due to "hand holding how-to services" and R3.

It is delusional to think NRs will have any voice in WY wildlife. Lots of WY folks with influence working against NRs having any tags at all. Rob Shaul built a whole campaign around eliminating NR hunting. Others too.

It seems in Wyoming whatever the wildlife issue is, the problem is always the NR hunter. I refuse to join the “NR GTFO, be happy you get anything!” crowd. NR hunters turned out in a huge way to help defeat Prop 127 in Colorado and that matters way more to me than bickering over tag allocations.

The quota percentage has not changed do you want the game and fish to continue over allocating when game numbers are down? Why did you conviently leave out elk tags? It's not a wyoming resident issue nr have made it popular now they want to place the blame somewhere else why tags are difficult to get

I don't complain about tag allotments and the such, I take whatever i can get and consider it a privilege that i get lucky enough to hunt any other state besides the one I currently live in (Virginia)and the one i have a lifetime license for (West Virginia) I will play by whatever rules are set forth by the states and not complain and I can agree with the Wyoming guys that honestly I shouldn't have much say in the game laws and tag allotments there as I am not a resident of Wyoming. If i can only come hunt wyoming once every 5 years then so be it, that's what I will do and wont complain.

But that being said ....the way some of you guys come across on these forums, whether intentional or not, you seem like real a-holes, which I can almost understand why sometimes, because when a non resident says something like "I been coming there for 20 years and I demand this and that etc." they are being an a-hole just as much. and yes alot of the non residents in these threads I would classify as whiners just as much as u wyoming guys. So you got a-holes on the left and a-holes on the right, I feel like Dark Helmet from spaceballs..."I knew it.......Im surrounded by a-holes!!!"

But honestly the way you Wyoming guys come across on these forums and other places(aka social media).... what happens when you have your own Proposition 127 like colorado just had? Will you still be saying non residents dont have a voice in wyoming? Or will there be a thread on here asking to donate to a gofund me for a newspaper ad similar to what we just recently saw? Will rokslide get to post another "We Won!" podcast, or will Robby be posting a "We lost" podcast. We need to figure out someway to come together on this, and quit beating this horse into the ground, it's no good for anyone resident or non resident.

anway that's my 2 cents to every wyoming vs non resident thread I have ever had to read on rokslide and other social media, argue all you guys want, but one day karma (in the form of anti's) are gonna be the ones who come out on top here

It's because Wyoming is the constant whipping horse. Nobody bitches about Alaska's guide requirements. Nobody bitches about NM's guide only draw. Nobody points out that for years Wyoming allocated far more moose and sheep tags than other western states.

New Mexico non-residents have 6 percent of the total allocation in units that have at least 13 permits. So they don't always have 6%. Guided non-residents get an additional cut at 10%. No one complains!

Arizona 10%
Montana 10%
Colorado 20-30% for mule deer and 20% for elk also reads as 25%
Idaho 10% no more than 10%
Utah 10%
Wyoming 10% sheep, goat, moose, bison and 20% deer and antelope and 15% elk
California 10% of sheep tags, nonresidents do not have individual allocations for deer, elk and antelope you are limited to one or the other tag but not both.
North Dakota 1%. yes 1
Nevada ?
Nebraska non-residents can not draw elk unless they own land with elk
South Dakota similar cluster as Nevada, but they have their own lottery
Oregon 3-10% depends on the species.
Washignton no quotas for non-residents or residents everyone is in the same pool with no caps.

I think some of the Wyoming guys being so vocal is because people from, say, Alabama come out here and it’s far different than walking 100 yards across the back yard to the tree stand and they then feel they should affect change without learning the culture or what makes this state desirable to hunt, and for me, to reside in.
In the Wyoming resident defense, none of these threads are started by them and none of us get antagonistic until the pitchforks come out. Do I try to have a say over access or tag allotment in Virginia? No. Iowa? No. Wyoming is content to live and let live but that isn’t reciprocated.
I bet there are a lot of PM’s sent from people offering advice and there is a lot of solid advice given publicly, albeit maybe not what people want to hear.
I’m probably one of the a-holes you’re referring to and I’m ok with that. With that said, I’d be one of the first to drive a couple hours to pull you out of a ditch on your next elk hunt if you needed as would any a-hole Wyoming resident I know.

As for Elk, they're a bit more difficult to calculate and I had better things to do.

Yeah the set amount of tags nr get out of the quota has not changed 16 (percent)for elk 20 (percent) for deer and antelope... quota have changed and that effects nr and residents if you think that Wyoming shouldn't adjust quotas based on how the herds are doing I am not sure what to tell you besides stay in Oregon

It is nice seeing those numbers posted though shows we can really cut nr tags more i would be willing to double my tag fees to cut the nr tags in half

When did I ever say they shouldn't adjust quotas? It appears you think I'm complaining about WY and how they allocate nr tags. Had you been around here much over the last 12 years you'd know it's quite the opposite.
