Mike Lee , senior senator of Utah, chair of the Senate Energy Committee is trying to push through a new bill to sell our public lands.
Lee has put a side deal together with his Montana senate cronies so the state of MT will not participate in his public land sales, because he knew they would vote against him and his bill.
I am mostly a republican but ready for a 3rd party. This land bill proposed by Lee has corruption, greed, unfairness , good ole boy under the table dealings written all over it. Making MT exempt, really? You can’t make this sh** up!!!

Am I missing something?

Apparently, some of Lee's his peers in the legal profession suspect that Lee feels he hasn't lived up to his legacy. His father was a US Solicitor General and his brother sits on the Utah supreme court. Mike Lee's crowning achievement as an attorney was winning a case for the class A low-level radioactive waste facility provider Energy Solutions. You can scroll through his resume: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Lee. -there's not a lot that jumps out as notable. Footnotes such as endorsing Ted Cruz (over Trump) for President.

Some speculate he deeply desires some legislation that's going to land him in the history books. Since he's been pushing this agenda for years, it could be argued that Lee has etched this would-be legacy into the draft version of the "One Big Beautiful Bill."

Pretty surprised Mike Lee would receive support and survive from an outdoor recreation state like Utah. From what I have read about Mike Lee , is that he has very little substance , and fewer accomplishments. Politicians like Lee are very common, looking for ways to get a big pay check down the road after selling out his constituents , and in Lee’s case the entire nation. Leaving his Montana senator cronies off the bill knowing they will vote against his bill is so obvious who Mike Lee really is. Can’t you impeach this scumbag or at least blackball him and make his life miserable?

For what its worth, my buddies threatened to vote D if he kept it up. This was a year or so ago. I think his fate is sealed now.

I’m not a fan. I used to vote mostly republican, but now I’m firmly in the independent camp. I can’t stomach either major parties politics and agendas.

His stance on public lands, along with his proposal to reduce the ability of the judicial to be a check and a balance to the executive branch make me wonder how anyone in my state can vote for him.

Warning: Political Wormholes

He just posted this on X, I didn’t flesh it out but it sounds like he took someone’s advise and is changing his bill based off that. Which if that is accurate that is great, but the fact that he just now considered the hunters is beyond disturbing.

I would imagine his co-chair Martin Heinrich on the energy committee may have had something to do with it as well.

NM would sue for exempting MT, but making everyone else "pay" for the misguided foolishness of this bill.

I wish I lived in a world where people were intelligent enough to elect someone like Heinrich for president.

I like him about as much as I can like a politician, that being said he came to my former school to talk to the wildlife biology program and it was clearly a photo-op with a bunch of disingenuous crap. I just wish for once I could see a regular person as a politician but that would mean someone that hates the job but does it for the good of the people they represent. Anyone that wants to be a politician gives me major pause.

As the appointed spokesman for “Hunter nation”, by “changes” I expect to see the legislation removed entirely from the bill, an immediate resignation from the senate and the donation of Mike Lee’s estate for the purposes of creating an “American Public Lands Museum and Library.”

Anything short of that is not enough change.

Yeah when I was in my early twenties I worked a ranch in Montana and Romney was a guest for a couple days. Everything was a political opportunity and he, like all really wealthy people, was weird as hell and awkward. His fireside campaign trail stories were so disenfranchising that I got up and left to cool off.

My first taste of politicians saying what’s needed to win and having no plan of how to actually do it. “I told them I’d save every job! And I won! McCain messed up by saying that some of these jobs weren’t coming back. Once we heard that we knew I had a chance.” In the crowd I was like, so what was your plan to make that happen? Everyone else was starry eyed.

I think semi legit folks like Heinrich get setup and told what to do by political aides etc.. eventually they lose their authenticity. Equally disheartening is if they stick with their guns and stayed genuine our voter base would insure that we never even heard of them. Stay true or stay relevant. You can’t do both when the jury is THIS American public.
