What Do You Utahns Think Of Senator MIKE LEE And His PUBLIC Land Sale Bill?

There are several other Mike Lees in politics, and his constituents are not the type with pronouns in their email signatures.
lol I’ll take pronouns over self aggrandizing user names. Call me old fashioned. Also, plenty are. They are your constituents regardless of if they voted for you. Utahs not all a monoculture, especially his district.

Lee is a senator, so his "district" is the entire state that leans red by 20-30 points. I'm just mentioning why he most likely chose that username. He does what will help him win, similar to how Jeff Merkley was spazzing on Covid with his posts a few years ago.

Mike Lee , senior senator of Utah, chair of the Senate Energy Committee is trying to push through a new bill to sell our public lands.
Lee has put a side deal together with his Montana senate cronies so the state of MT will not participate in his public land sales, because he knew they would vote against him and his bill.
I am mostly a republican but ready for a 3rd party. This land bill proposed by Lee has corruption, greed, unfairness , good ole boy under the table dealings written all over it. Making MT exempt, really? You can’t make this sh** up!!!
What do you Utahans think of your boy Mike Lee?
Am I missing something?
Like a lot of you guys, I've voted Republican in the past, but after all the chaos of this administration - I've had friends and relatives with 20+ year careers of hard work and service in government positions in the Forest Service, etc., - lose their jobs - and total disregard for the Constitution, I can't do that anymore. This PUBLIC land (OUR land) sell-off attempt is the last straw with me. At least with the other guys, I know what to expect ... it may not all be what I want, but it's not this bad.

Mike Lee needs to get fired!

Just got this from Idaho Wildlife Federation:

It's time to really work the phones for public lands.

This afternoon, the Senate Parliamentarian cleared Senator Mike Lee's public land sales bill for inclusion in the full Senate budget, deeming it compliant with the Byrd Rule. This was a major hurdle that now makes the threat of large-scale public lands sale more real than ever.

Senator Lee's proposal would mandate the sale of up to 1.2 million acres of BLM land across 11 Western states - including Idaho - over the next 10 years. Parcels given the highest priority for sale would be those with the "highest value". That would include many of our most cherished hunting and fishing spots.

It is now more critical than ever that we contact our Senators and tell them how much these places mean to us. Thank them for supporting public lands. Ask them to vote no on any bill containing public lands sales, and to support an amendment to strip public lands sales from the budget. Your voice is needed, and it's needed today.

Im from utah and will not be voting for senator mike lee, I will be voting for his opponent or not vote at all.

I call BS

I’m not sure he can or should be able to save face, read the second paragraph. How do you write legislation get it that close to passing and have no mechanisms to keep it from being exploited by the same group causing the rise in housing? I suspect he had the developers picked out before writing the legislation. Nobody can be this stupid, but they are this evil.

A quick scan through Mike Lee’s twitter feed and it’s pretty clear his MO is to play the card that “its the extremes left fault” for every problem. The only reason the public land sales got dropped this time was because people weren’t duped and stayed united on this issue. Next time he tries this I suspect he will attempt to spin it as a left vs right issue, hopefully we all can see through it

Is this D. Jr stepping into damage control with the hunters who opposed this bill? Or, was his a critic of this potential sale this entire time?

I'd wager he's "vouching" for an unpopular Mike Lee, but I could be wrong.
He and Eric are big hunters, he mentioned hunternation in that post, Lee made a comment that he was redoing the legislation based off what he heard from hunternation a week or so back.
Jason Hairston did a sheep hunting video featuring Don Jr.
Don Jr helped start a magazine called Field Ethos, too expensive for me.

Sounds like Lee trying to twist his loss into a victory and save face. The thousands of hunter who flooded their Senators email boxes and phone lines won’t forget.

Most of the hunters that called won’t get a vote. Utah has a huge block of non-hunting conservative voters. Lee is in very little danger of losing his job.

I know they hunt. I’ve just never heard any pro public land position come from either of them.

And what is “Hunternation”? I saw Mike Lee’s post about “I hear you, Hunternation”, but I thought he was referring to hunters as a group who were being very vocal. Is this an actual organization? what do they do? Who is a member?

Don Jr. is a partner at Field Ethos which is not exactly a brand that speaks to the DIY western hunter. It’s more tailored to the “good ol’ boy” crowd with the money to chase exotic game behind a high fence in Texas.

I don’t recognize him as a steward of public land today, and I probably won’t tomorrow.

Especially not when his brand is out there printing shirts that say “Private Land Hunter.” Likely a jab at Rinella and BHA, but either way, the mantra misses the mark. Completely.

I bleed for what’s left of North America’s big game herds, what remains is a shadow of what once roamed this continent. And the primary cause of that decline? Privatization and fragmentation of habitat.

This is America, the greatest country on Earth for anyone willing to earn it. That goes for diy public land hunting too. The Opportunity is still here and still affordable for those who want it. But people like Mike Lee do not see the value in something that can’t be owned, processed, or sold.
