New Athlon Chronograph

Pre-ordered an athlon rangecraft through euro at a special pricing $263. Should be here tomorrow and will hit the range to test out new load using ramshot grand powder.

Found this to be interesting. Not saying it’s a relevant data size, but maybe something along the lines of this could be done further. You’ll need to watch the whole thing to get what I mean, but where it comes in is about 9 minutes in.

I wonder if it has to do with spin of the bullet? That would make sense if it is always reading slow to the right and fast to the left of the rifle.

If the Athlon is that sensitive to placement near the rifle, I'm not sure thats such a good thing. All Garmin tells you to do is put it behind the muzzle 5-15" away. I've never put mine under the rifle, there's not enough room anyway.

Got some range time with it today. Pretty user friendly. The app was pointless for me. I couldn’t find a xero to compare with today but I did have a magneto speed to compare to. The biggest difference between the two was about 4 fps.
But
Comparing data to older xero data I have. Shooting 300 prc with same batch of UM loaded ammo. Take this for what it’s worth because these were not recorded same day. But these are averages of two difference sessions with average of 5 groups with 5 rds each.

It seems the Rangecraft reads an average of 8 fps slower then the xero.
The xero
min avg 2965
Max avg 2989
FPS avg 2977
ES avg 24.6
SD 9.4

The Rangecraft
Min avg 2953
Max avg 2982
FPS avg 2969
ES avg 29
SD 10.3

I did the math for ya
Min diff 11.4
Max diff 6
Avg diff 8
ES diff 4.4
SD diff .9

This all could be accounted for by the different days. To me it just seems like the max averages are close to par with each other but the minimums were a touch lower with the Rangecraft opening up the averages spread.

Mine arrived today. I’ll test it out against my bow after the CBC wraps up. All I can test it against is an old Caldwell unit, but I’ll try to get something this week.

At least you guys got ones that work. I got mine on Friday opened it and couldn’t get it to turn on. Charged it with a few different cables and cords and still nothing. Finally noticed the screen was glowing but no images and none of the buttons would do anything. Couldn’t even turn it off. After the battery ran dead I charged it again and turned it on with the same results.

This is all the screen will show.IMG_6442.jpeg

Now THAT’S a bummer!! Back it goes! I’d contact Athlon and the distributor from which it came. Be VERY surprised if you don’t get a replacement or refund in short order. Athlon’s got a lot riding on this roll out.

I emailed them and they have sent a label to return it. In their reply they did specifically note the 1 year warranty… makes me feel like they know it’s going to break just like this in couple years.

Wow, that’s not a very reassuring thing to say to a customer in an email.

Odd he would even mention it in the email in the first place on a brand new unit.
Agreed. I asked why he mentioned it as I emailed them the same day I got it and it never worked but he ignored the question in his response.

When I opened the box I did notice the unit wasn’t set all the way down in the recessed slot. Maybe this caused it to get banged around in transport??

Hoping they aren’t that fragile… someone needs to drop test theirs now while it’s in the 1 year warranty period and let us know about the durability.
