Cold Bore Challenge Q&A Thread

@Legend post up your load data for the 300wsm and that light bullet. I have a fast 130gr ttsx load that my brother wants to shoot a deer with. I also have no bullets and said he might order those hammers.

I added the load data. It killed 3 elk last year.

Sorry man, but I never mentioned any names. I know the feeling, I’ve missed more shots in the cold bow on the first day than hits. And I’m always one of the first ones to post so I can’t hide.

All in good fun. I appreciate you guys putting this together, has really pushed me to practice more! I've shot more at 500 yards plus this spring than I would have otherwise. Admittedly not enough practice in the wind.

It probably hurts more missing the 2nd qualifying shot than the first. Sending prayers for a quick recovery

A day 2 miss, no qualification for further MER, so keep sending it...you know, like when a guy misses the first shot on a deer. Mag dump engaged.

I was just giving him a hard time.

Once you shoot your 2nd you can fire away, if you aren’t doing the 4 day total!

In a way I’m happy it’s over in another way I’m sad. We went with the two shots requirement because we know it’s harder for people to find a place to shoot, but man I like that pressure of 1-shot “make it count” and kinda wish there were a few more days…

Also realized I got totally lucky catching two days with really light winds. It would’ve made a difference if we had the common 20 mph day

Wind can definitely make it or break it. Significant wind would likely break me.

Not wanting to gum up the actual challenge thread:

The long range challenge has shown me that there are some guys who can easily do this and there are the rest of us. Long range shooting is best left to the experts who shoot those distances all the time.

Wind is tough.

Here’s my 2 follow-up shots that i no longer needed for further distance. Seems like the light winds mess with my head more then the higher wind does. Wind was 3 mph where I was shooting from and 0 at target. My first shot I held dead center and missed just off right edge of a 12” plate. Changed hold between the 2 follow up shots…

This is such good practice. Where I shoot is about a half hour from my house. Driving an hour to shoot one round seems kind of silly, but when hunting you've got way more than that invested and a lot of times you only get one chance. This challenge mimics that pressure better than anything else I've done.

made a 2 hour round trip with my buddy this morning to start the challenge. Had to wake up at 6am on vacation which was terrible. He was on day two I was on day one Definitely felt the nerves!
