Trying out some 308/168 ABLR bullets.
Rumor has it there difficult to tune. I read everything I could get my hands on.

Don't need information on other calibers, other bullets, etc. Very specific question here please.

Custom M700 308, 26 inch heavy varmint contour Brux barrel. 400 shots (new). Velocity node with 168s ranges from 2700 to 2800 fps with lots of different bullets.

Lapua brass, 0.306 mandrel, Fed 210, 44.5 Varget
Running 0.060 jump at 2.80 book length. I felt a tiny crunch right at the end of bullet seating. This load is shot at lower right. Not good. 1.3 inch?
Velocity came in at 2700, ES 30. 10 twist.IMG_20260628_201512015.jpg

QUESTION to those who HAVE A SUCCESSFUL 308 load with this bullet.
Should I try to get more jump like 0.020 more?
And then work outward? I'm not a big fan of crunching Varget but I probably can.

Just to make sure it wasn't me or the gun that suck, I plopped two Sierra game Kings into the same hole at the upper left. I can punch one ragged hole until the barrel gets real hot.

Anybody got ideas whether I should try to increase the jump before I start stepping it out for testing? I hate to back off powder because I'm still stable at a thousand yards right now.

I appreciate any helpful comments where to start. I was warned up front that ABLR very long bullets are hard to tune.

My experience has been to start them close to the lands, like .010 off the lands and work back in .010 increments.

I’ve never been able to get them to shoot well past .050 off the lands.
