2025 Cold Bore Challenge Q&A Thread

I have a question- and was curious what everyone’s thoughts were. So I set my MER at 800 yards is the goal- I qualified with both my first two shots shooting a 25 SAUM, I am now qualified to make my final two shots- my question is can I switch to a bigger rifle for the next 2 longer shots to make that longer shot more realistic? Or do I have to complete it entirely with the same rifle? Essentially I just want to switch to my 7 SAUM to keep things interesting- they are essentially set up identical- both hunting weight 9lb rifles

A lasting benefit for me this year is having the target set up.

I'm hitting it on the way to or from work depending on what I have going on to improve my least proficient positions.

Currently learning what I can get away with kneeling over sitting.

I practiced this, just this morning.

I was getting regular hits in 12-18 MPH winds at 426 yards with the 223 in this position… Still haven’t shot with anyone who can get their sticks out and into position quicker than a long Spartan bipod for seated or kneeling, but I also haven’t shot with some of you speedy shoot2hunt grads yet either 😜

Laughs in 22 Creedmoor 🤷‍♂️

Got an impact in the circle for day 3, sometimes it feels like cheating when you can input the wind and the binos spit out a wind hold that puts you where you’re holding. Cool little ledge to shoot off of today. May try bipod-less tomorrow for the final shot.

Haven’t shot from it yet but this little Wiser head seems like it’s gonna be pretty cool. This is as far forward as I can mount the rifle before it starts to tilt. Not sure I’d ever use it that far forward without rear support anyways IMG_2216.jpeg

Some pretty sweet looking places to shoot, much better than my Mn farm fields lol. Thanks for putting this on!

Rokslide should hold a match that doesn’t fall under the nrl umbrella and use this as a qualifier? Then when you show up you get put into groups based on claimed mer and really see where it stacks

Completed the Cold Bore Challenge today (post #83) with a miss @ 675 yards...missed just high. I decided to move out of comfort zone of prone and tried this 4th shot from sitting position (tripod table with molinator front rest and backpack as rear support). I'm not proficient nor stable (i.e. I suck) with this sitting setup. Need more practice.

I’ll have to give that a try! Anything special about the pack?

Well open some investigation I believe I have a bona fide excuse.

Looks like my scope slipped in the rings.

Not that I’m Mr super Mac awesome or anything.
But I thought it was doing wild stuff.
At least you got it figured out, hopefully. I had bases slip on a Tikka dovetail and I assembled per forum directions, turns out recoil pins are very necessary. Haven't had issues since.
