I’ve never bought steel… what should I get for a 7mm?
Cheap option is a local metal scrap yard and get them to cut some 3/8 or better scrap to size and punch a couple holes for hangers. I think I paid like $10 each for a couple bigger plates. May not last forever but at longer range I would think it is going to last my lifetime. Copper bullets def put a bigger dent in them.

AR 500 is the good stuff, but not a cheap date

Went for a hike today and took two hots at 610.
Both were good elevation but left. I believe that there was wind across the canyon. There was on top of ridge but none where I was so I failed to acknowledge it.
Guessing target rock was 20" tall x 10" wide but didn't hike over to measure.
Shooting platform was steep and didn't feel great about position until I got a jacket under right elbow.

Really enjoyed going up trail with no gun visible.
XLR with 18in barrel fits in the SG 5900.

Nice setup, what cal? I think wind will be most of our downfall.

I went and did some practicing today after zeroing with a new cartridge from what I used last year. Humbled myself a bit with shooting off trekking poles and on my pack. I picked up the quick-stix adapter for Christmas and thought it would work more like a bipod and rear bag than it actually did. Took that setup out to 435 yards. Then bipod and rear bag out to 594 yards. Still an awesome day shooting though!

We got out and did some shooting yesterday afternoon. I didn’t do a true cold bore because I zeroed 2 scopes before but did a first round hit with the 223 at 525 yards, didn’t zero that scope. Switched to the 22 cm, that scope I checked zero and adjusted 1 click up. First round at distance was a 670 yard hit right on the edge of my 10” circle.

My problem is going for this challenge is going to be finding a place to shoot once they start putting cattle out to pasture.

If I can get my new muzzleloader up and going, I am going to try to do this along side (obviously wont enter in the contest). Going to shoot for 150 yards with an open sight. Might even bring out the scoped one and push it to 350. We will see what happens.

This is going to be awesome. I’m afraid I’m going to have to use the ol 6.5 cm … all the memes I’ve seen have rejuvenated my liking for this superior long range cartridge.

Although,If what I hear on the internet is true, seeing my bullet splash on the plate (if my bullet has the energy to make it there) will be difficult past 300yds . Pray for me, and the little 6.5
