@TheCougar LRH has some long ranges listed in a subforum, not sure how current it is though. I thought i'd seen a place in maryland that went over 1k, but my recent search efforts haven't located them.

If anyone in Grand Junction will be joining this challenge holler at me. Would be fun to get together on this event to shoot since we are blessed with a variety of areas to shoot long range.

Im in but who do we send proof to for over 600yards ?
Spence, I'd be down to link up and shoot it together.

In Texas, one range yes, one range no. Out here in VA, there are only two long range facilities that I’m aware of. One is Quantico, and that’s a hard no. The other is Peacemaker, and I’ve not asked yet. They have their own steels set up and I’ve never seen anyone out on the range or setting up their own targets. I know one of the RCOs, so I can ask next month when I go up there. It’s certainly worth asking the question, and perhaps if I give them a steel plate they can set it up for me. Peacemaker only has their long range active one day per week, so it’s pretty limited, unfortunately. There’s no other place in VA or WV that I’m aware of. I did a google search and came up empty. Does anyone know if any resources to find long distance ranges: a map, or listing, search engine, etc?
Isn't someone painting the steel daily? How would you log impacts if they didn't?

What's your National Forest like? Anything close?

We have national forest nearby… but it’s literally a forest. There’s no place you can see or shoot beyond about 150 yards. I’ve been out turkey hunting and there’s no place I’ve found where you can see anything but trees. Also, there happen to be no turkeys in said trees, either…

Any transmission or pipelines?
Good luck on the turkeys too.

Finally read through all of these, this should be fun, and I'll plan on joining!

If my 7prc gets finished I'll use that, otherwise my lightweight 6.5 should do. I try to take some absolute cold bore shots when I get to the range, but this will be even better going to the range for that single purpose.

Ridge to ridge?
Sort of. More like a bench to a steep rise. I think I can clear some brush and get what I need. I’ll stash the target in the forest, since it’s a 1/2 mile straight uphill from the road. There’s no trails up there, except for the top of the ridge, which is the VA/WV line. The target will be several hundred vertical feet below that. There’s no trail on the side I’m shooting. It’s just a thick mountainside with a power line cut.

I’m in no danger of hitting a turkey, that’s for dang sure…

I haven’t taken my LRF there yet, but I’m guessing I can get something around 600 with a little creativity and elbow grease.

I’ve never bought steel… what should I get for a 7mm?

AR 500 for sure. I’ve burnt holes through 3/8” with a 139 sst from my 7mm at 200 yards. I think speed kills the steel more then everything. I got some 1/2” ar500 last fall that I was shooting my 22 cm at this spring doing some testing at about 75 yards and left divots in. That is attached picture.

I should have added more clarification to my 3/8" remark. I don't have any steel inside of 400 yards. If I am shooting inside 400 it's on paper. No experience on 3/8" ar500 at closer distances. However, I can attest that It holds up well at 400+ with everything from 223 to 300win.

If there’s open slots, I’d be excited to join. I feel like I get a lot of food for thought out of the Cold Bow, this will be great.
It hasn't opened yet, First Saturday in June

I’ve definitely got some prep and thinking to do until this starts, but it sounds like a great idea.
