Best bang for the buck, pun intended. $1000-$1500 Factory rifles.

I just bought a tikka t3x SS 7mm. I was considering a Christensen Mesa, but then a sale popped up and I was able to get the tikka for $590 shipped. Can't beat that!

Good stuff man! You should be very happy with that rifle. (even though it's not a sako) HAHA! All kidding aside, that is a fine rifle and should shoot and pack well. Not to mention it's the right caliber too.👍 Congratulations!

I plan on dropping it into a B&C medalist stock for about $300, which will leave me about $800 for a scope.

At that price point the Vortex pst or hslr should do you well. I know you can get a good deal on the gen 1s now that the 2s are coming out. The improved turrets look pretty nice.

There is another separate thread on scopes that I am watching. I was originally thinking of getting the viper scope, but that thread has changed my mind. I'm looking at swfa, swaro, high end bushnell, or night force.

I just mentioned the Vortex because you said $800. That's not going to get you very far with the other ones you mentioned. IMO. I'd go with the night force out of those choices. I do and have run a Vortex HSLR 6-24×50 FFP. I sent it back immediately after receiving it to get an inside blemish taken care of and the elevation turret changed to 1/4 MOA vs. the 1/2 MOA which it comes with. It has worked flawless and has been great to use ever since. Oh ya, I was gonna ask what scope thread you were referring to also? Thanx.

On a side note, are the Swarovski 10x42 slc's really that much better than the Vortex Razor 10x42's? Yes... I'm in that boat.

I've got the same model Vortex and am curious about changing it over to quarter MOA. I assume they charged you for that? Was it much of a hassle to get them to do it, or was it a pretty easy deal? I love the scope, but I've wished it dialed elevation in 1/4.

Hands down, best thing I ever did to it! It was not a hassle at all. I sent it in (about a year ago) and they changed the guts out and had it back to me in less than two weeks total time. Thier turnaround time was longer than usual when I did that. I believe I was charged $70 for the retrofit. If you are wanting to do that I highly recommend that you do, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

As far as SLC vs Razors... it depends. Yes SLCs are better: smaller, lighter, brighter, better contrast, edge to edge clarity, etc. But you need to decide for yourself where the money should be spent. I splurged when I bought them because I was deployed and I wanted some awesome glass when I got home. I would never have bought them otherwise. Whenever I want to but some new gear, I ask myself if the money could be better spent elsewhere to make me a more effective hunter. Keep in mind that there is other glass that is around the $1000 mark that might be better than Razors, such as Meopta. There are others, but i have first hand experience with the meoptas and I thought they were better glass than the Razors.

That thread really made me pause on my decision to buy the Viper LR scope. My #1 priority is function/reliability/durability. Optics are secondary in a scope (for me). I'm a bow hunter primarily, so I'm listening to the advice of people who know more than me!

I understand where you are coming from. I'm not trying to twist your arm here but, I haven't had any issues with the functionality of mine since I've had it back from the mothership (not that I had problems before either). It tracks true and has been consistently repeatable. I'd also remember that I am willing to bet there is more Viper scopes floating around than there is of the alphas and if that's the case the failure rate is going to be higher no matter what. One also has to factor in price point. I think if it was apples to apples you might be surprised. In saying that though, I still believe the alphas are of better construction/ design and are under much more quality control which in turn makes a much better product. All in all, with no price tag involved I'd take the night force.

swfa 3-15 doesn't win any sexy contests but ****all mines taken a beating and still holds zero perfectly and returns to zero perfectly as well. it's seen hundreds of rounds, falls and mishaps and it works perfect. It lived on my truck bed floor for a bit and really got beat on. Good as gold minus some scratching.

wish they'd make it in hd glass with shorter turrets and illumination.

$590? Where?

It was from Whittaker Arms in KY. There was a post in one of the forums about a flash sale. I think the sale is still going on. It was a screaming deal and shipping was fast. You just need to pay an extra $20 to get it delivered to a local FFL.

They are guaranteed. If yours won't shoot, send it in for a replacement. I have shot a ton of them and have never seen one that wouldn't shoot sub moa.

I've only had one that was a pain in the butt to get shooting 3/4". I've worked loads up for 10 or 11 of them in random calibers. Most Tikkas are very easy and eat what ever you want it to.
It was a 25-06 and needed it to shoot Barnes. Barrel was broken in for him pretty well when I was done... Something like 60 load work ups, 5-6 powders, 3 different projectiles...at 4 rounds per workup... That was after putting in steel lug. Never sent it in because I am stubborn. Thought about dremeling that load in the stock! haha

Tikka seems like a nice rifle but all the ones I see have a shorter 24" barrel. I may be wrong but that's what I remember. If I'm going with a 7MM Rem Mag I want a 26" barrel but that's me.

The last 300WM I had rebarreled has a 23in barrel and I shoot 20in barreled 7mm, 30cal, and 338 magnums. Other than competition rifles and pure dedicated long range rifles, I don't want a barrel over about 22in. 20-22 in barrels versus 26in barrels lose very little down range performance for a noticeable benefit in weight and maneuverability.

TC,
You ended up costing me a lot of money when I saw those prices...I ended up with a Tikka T3x CTR 6.5CM 24" barrel, rather than the 7RM Lite I wanted. I guess my recently acquired Sako 75 300WSM will do for now...lol
