TRT Anyone?

I did blood tests twice a week for several months last year and my T levels kept fluctuating where insurance wouldn’t pay. It was maddening because I still felt like I had low drive and lack of initiative. I’ve been eating extremely clean and on a high protein diet, but still not the same. I just kind of gave up on trying to get on TRT but I’ve been thinking about it again.

Anyone else have a similar experience? Super low T levels on one test, then “acceptable” on another and insurance refused to pay?

It won’t come back naturally to what you’d feel is an noticeable level. When you start you’ll notice in the first week. Go to a hormone specialist and pay out of pocket. Depending what all they prescribe you it can be as little as Red Letters said above or most of them charge $30-40 a week. Small price to pay for feeling normal. After being on for awhile I’ve heard people say I don’t feel it anymore then they quit and realize that was a mistake. Other people have quit and just accept the old feeling again. Worth a try if you are already in the dumps what do you have to lose. Can always stop taking it and go back to where you started. I wouldn’t wait on insurance.

I find it interesting you're all seeing and feeling changes in 2 weeks or less. Test cyp is a slow acting form of testosterone and usually takes 4-6 weeks to feel it.

I agree with finding a specialist, my last dr knew I was low at the age of 25 and still said let's see what happens. Seeing a specialist next week that only does TRT.

Many people feel it well before 4-6 weeks. The energy I felt at starting dose of 200mg a week was INSANE the first 2 weeks. I couldn’t sleep at night and would hit the ground full speed at 5am no issues needing any caffeine etc. It was just miserable trying to sleep. Talked to doctor and they cut me back. Ended up at 160mg. As I said now it’s normal so sure I could maybe go back to 200mg and wouldn’t feel that jolt again, but everything is good so why mess with it.

I had a consultation yesterday.
I'm horrible with medical stuff so bear w me.
Test was 397
Free 8.29
%free was 2.9
Vitamin d was low so he prescribed that.
And some other pill.
And said something about a product that would help if I wanted to come back off.
Said my insurance won't pay because I'm over 300.
So I agreed to pay out of pocket.
They gave me a .7 shot
But its $299 every time I re order every 5-6 weeks.
And I fee like even worse shit now.
Honestly I'm regretting it so far. I'm out a bunch of money and don't think I'm gonna use any more of what I payed for.

You all are aware there are side effect with testosterone supplementation don’t you?
Testosterone is like fuel to the prostate, and there is a risk of sudden cardiac death with this stuff.
not trying to discount the effects some of you have had, but seems this thread has been all roses and no thorns.
be careful and know what you are putting in your body!

Texas,
Can you provide more background to that comment? Everybody runs the risk of cardiac arrest. Some more than others due to their condition. There are studies that show trt can be good for your heart health too. Generally trt and prostate is only a concern if you have prostate cancer. Thats why a good doc will monitor bloodwork and prostate levels for a trt patient. If you have lived life with a sub 150 T level for any period of time you probably know the concerns you mention get much less relevant.

Just make sure you give blood every two months to keep your hemoglobin/hematocrit levels normal and you will be good. Many times after being on testosterone after along period your blood pressure will slowly begin to rise. Probably need to take blood pressure medication I’ll be at a low dose to keep your blood pressure back and check.

I take testosterone cypionate and I noticed it immediately. I can feel it affects about 2 to3 hours after I inject myself. My doctor injected me with 250 mg the first time and I felt like King Kong and couldn’t hardly sleep the first night. Felt amazing for the first few weeks and now I don’t even really notice it anymore.

He started you off low and will probably slowly build up.

For a inject schedule, I would look @ every 4 days or 7 days and try not to every 14 has a pretty big fall off, IMo

That’s why you do routine bloodwork and consult with a doctor. Not buying from some guy at the gym. Have you ever listened to side effects from drug commercials when they talk real fast at the end? Nothing is perfect without any negative possibilities, but I don’t want to go back to how I felt before 1000% on that.

Not sure what you mean by .7, but that seems weird my friend. Usually when you inject test, it only makes positive changes. I still find it hard to believe those with test C injections are claiming positive effects so quickly though.

I'm going to be seeing a men's specialist next week that solely does TRT and I am very worried now about my insurance😬

.7 ml of testosterone cypionate

Idk I'm normally not a ball of fire but not normally this sleepy.
He told me over 300 test, insurance would not cover.
But they only use a single compounding pharmacy and won't send a script to my pharmacy.
Idk I'm sure I'm freaking out about nothing. But something seems wierd. I probably won't take any more and just wasted $300
I can't keep that price tag up monthly.

one of the downsides is once you start trt your body quits making it
Yep, so you are stuck on it. Hormones have a negative feedback cycle that down regulate and exogenous hormone means less endogenous hormone. Normally once the exogenous hormone is stopped the endogenous hormone upregulares, but in the case of testosterone, if you take it too long you loose the ability to create. Same thing happens for some women who take BCP for too long, their bodies stop the regular cycles of hormones and can not cycle regularly so they have trouble getting pregnant. It doesn’t happen to most, its just a small subset, but the reality is it does happen.

I am A medical doctor, so my background is multi factorial. I also happen to know the owner of Low-T centers is not even medically trained but simply a business person who knows guys want to feel better.
i also know pcp docs are looking for a reason to make money, and low t is a easy way to make money in the sense it requires appts and insurance can pay. Payments have gone down across the board for medical doctors and a lot of docs look for ways to increase revenue. There are many business models proposed to docs that have no bearing on patient care that are simply to make money. Not saying all docs do this kind of stuff, but i know some in every specialty.
there are plenty of studies on both side of the argument regarding supplemental hormone replacement so you can find any study to support your side of the argument. But, i have the “inside the industry”knowledge to know some things are done to just make money and very rarely is testosterone replacement a requirement....

do any of you wonder why this has suddenly become the thing to do? Compare testosterone replacement in people below 70yo before and after obamacare, night and day difference. Follow the money. It isnt because the medical profession suddenly became aware of testosterone replacement.

65 in a few months and I do not take and never have taken any supp T. There are a lot of things you should do before that imo.....diet should be as close to 100% good, body fat% should be low, strength training and aerobic capacity training should be good....then lean muscle mass would be up.....intermittent fasting is worth a try while your doing that other stuff.....

the e-z way is not always the best way.

Easy to say if you're not the one feeling like crap.
