New Athlon Chronograph

How do the Garmin and Athlon compare shooting suppressed?
any issues with one or the other?
sensitivity better with one?
Neither triggers off of the muzzle blast like the original Labradar. They (Garmin, Athlon and the new compact Labradar) are actively looking for a bullet and start sampling when the radar sees the bullet.

Friends have no issues with the Garmin suppressed and I none with my Athlon bare muzzle, braked or suppressed.

The Labradar sucks at picking up shots shooting suppressed. Granted it would miss shots with a bare muzzle but it missed a lot more with a suppressor. I assume that’s where his question is coming from.
yep, I bought a Labradar 2 days before the Garmin was announced so I've just used it. I'm shooting a lot more suppressed now and I'm over the Labradar.

Seems the consensus is the Athlon and Garmin are very comparable, any real solid reasoning to go Garmin over the Athlon? Got to use a Garmin shooting suppressed and it worked flawlessly but that Athlon seems just as good…

I used my Athlon next to my buddies Tikka .300 Win Mag that was suppressed to check the velocity of his boxed factory ammo and it worked consistently and just fine. Another range buddy has the Garmin and has not reported any issues whatsoever with his Garmin- and he has a couple suppressed options he regularly shoots.

Has anyone used their Athlon in the cold? I took mine out the other day when ambient was around 20-25 deg F and couldn’t get it to power on. I tried tucking it under my jacket for 5-10 minutes to warm up but it didn’t turn on until taking it inside to warm up for an hour.

I’m not sure if it’s a one-off issue or something with just my unit so seeing if anyone else has had issues in the cold.

Haven’t had any issues during 20-30* days

I just sent my Athlon back, it will not charge past 1 bar no matter how long I leave it on the charger. Waiting to see if they fix it or send me a new one. Other than that, it has worked flawlessly, and I am happy with the purchase. I will use my FIL Garmin until I get the Athlon back.

It appears that they are both fine for 95-98% of the needs of the large majority of shooters. My Athlon has been most educational concerning the evaluations of various factory ammunitions.

No experience in cold weather with my athlon but aside from that works great for suppressed an non suppressed. Readings every shot.

Picked up an athlon to get everything ready for deer season and it has performed flawless

I have Athlon scopes and like them. I will say though that I was at the range the other day with my Garmin and another guy down the lane had one as well. We decided to put both next to my rifle and fire a shot as I was packing up to leave. The two chronos measured 0.1fps difference for that shot. We were both impressed. Sample size of one, but still. Hopefully Athlon can perform at that level as well.
