They are threaded 9/16? Or 1/2?
Both. I also have a couple that are cut at 20” and threaded 5/8x24.

Any particular adapter (brand) you typically use?No. Most of the bolt rifles that I am using with CGS are just standard T3 lite barrels threaded and then a standard adapter to bring them to 5/8x24.

Thanks for the help! I appreciate it.Nope. I use multiple from multiple companies. “Best” is probably using CGS’s, but others are functionally fine.
I have looked into it, I believe they have a podcast as well.Maybe it has been mentioned, but have you checked out Jay’s work at pewscience.com ? He has objective ratings based from his proprietary formulas suppressor performance. Also, I’m commenting to get myself to The minimum so I can reply on buy/sell listings…
Jay is also a regular on the NFA Reddit and answers questions about his tests and suppressor comparisons. He also hunts.I have looked into it, I believe they have a podcast as well.
A lot of the cans I want to see tested, he won’t test because they won’t pay.Really lawnboi? The sound traces, first round pop illustrations, dB ratings, back pressure ratings etc don't help you see the differences between cans at all? Or the bar graphs showing how the can compares to other similar ones?
I spent quite a bit of time reading the free version, I found it very helpful. Not sure what the paid version could add really.
The CGS website says their 1/2-28 adapter is only for 5.56mm. https://cgsgroup.com/product/hyperion-thread-adapter/Nope. I use multiple from multiple companies. “Best” is probably using CGS’s, but others are functionally fine.
I am not quite sure the diameter or specifics of the cgs adapter but I’ve shot my Hyperion k on square shoulder barrels for thousands of rounds without any issues. Some are 1/2x28 with 5/8 adapter and some are straight 5/8x24.The CGS website says their 1/2-28 adapter is only for 5.56mm. https://cgsgroup.com/product/hyperion-thread-adapter/
I have a 6.5mm barrel threaded at 1/2 and I want to put that adapter on it (adapter is currently on a .22-250 and working great). Is that just CGS being cautious or is the inside diameter at the end of the adapter too small for the 6.5?
Sounds good, I'll just use a regular adapter and not mess with theirs. Thanks. Have been shooting it with a standard adapter on the 6.5 and it's working great, I'll double check the diameter tonight. Good to know about ordering the 1/2" with a .30 cal hole though, seems like they should all come that size on the adapter since it's a .30 cal can.Late to the party -
Chiming in cause I just came across this thread and have answers. Have a Hyperion-K, and have talked to Karen down at CGS. They are local to me and I’ve had all these questions.
1. The Hyperion and Hyperion-K have the Sig taper yes but can be used on a normal 90° shoulder so long as the shoulder is > 0.735”.
2. If the 90° shoulder is smaller than .735”, you can use one of their thread adaptors. The 5/8x24” adaptor is already bored out to .30 cal, the 1/2x28” is only bored to 5.56mm. It is purely rated to bore size. Again, confirmed with talks via Karen @ CGS.
I have shot both ways, direct threaded to a 90° shoulder that was ~0.80” in diameter and also with their adaptor. I would not hesitate to go without the adaptor if the shoulder was big enough. Just give it a nice hand tightening and check here and there. I did have a few barrels that were right borderline @ 0.735”, those I run adaptors on just to be safe.
Also - if you are needing a 1/2x28” adaptor but for a round > than the 5.56mm bore size that comes standard, you can simply order directly from CGS’ website and in the comment section put “please bore for .30 cal.” Boom, 1/2x28” adaptor bored out for .30 cal. I’ve confirmed this with Karen @ CGS and personally have ordered one this way. Ironically have also gotten a 1/2x28” already bored to .30” from a separate company who got a batch already bored out bigger. So they do bore out 1/2x28” adaptors to .30 cal from time to time, you just would have no way of confirming till it came in and you measured or you just ordered directly from CGS themselves.
