"DOI will work with HUD to identify lands to offload for the development of affordable homes"

Did you read the article? Of course not.

It states exactly what we were arguing...useless federal lands on the outskirts of metro areas with housing shortages are on the chopping block. Works out to fractions of a percent of land holdings FYI.

The alarmism in this thread is mind numbing.
IDK about you personally, but plenty of people were saying “no public lands will be sold” and “let me know when there’s actually a concrete proposal to sell public lands” 6 months ago.

It’s only once the current admin went public with wanting to sell lands that I noticed the goalposts shift to “‘useless’ public lands ‘close to town’ are fine to sell.”

Do I think the sky is falling because the republicans want to sell off 11,000 acres of public lands? No. But I am concerned because it gives me the perception of this administration being friendly with the anti-public lands faction of the Republican Party.

It’s always what they “say now”

Get the bill passed, we can modify the rules later, comes to mind

I get it, but to these communities surrounded by BLM this might be the only way that they can have the growth they need. Unless someone comes along and can convince millions of people to be completely happy and a two bedroom high-rise apartment. This is going to happen.

I don’t like the anti-public land portion of the Republicans anymore than I like the lunatic, solar and wind part of the democrats.

at some point there is no land left for development in the west. whether that is when we run out of private land, or public land. I would say we've run out of space because we don't have enough water as is. public lands are a backstop to over development. or we can pipe fresh water from somewhere else and turn the west into what the rest of the country looks like

All in favor of public lands for private profits raise ya hands.

eople not here legally should either be processed to be legal, sent back, or prosecuted if they have committed serious crimes here.
They have all committed a serious crime by coming into this country illegally. This is the reason this discussion is happening. Tens of millions of illegals. Round every one of them up kick their ass back across the border. There is no illegal that should be processed to be legal. The problem is for every one that is kicked out there is a matching lawsuit.

Just a few random pieces to boost housing they say

Dipshits from Utah try this every year. Not that familiar with the guy from Nevada, but not real surprising.

“The parcels could be used for economic development, mining, and infrastructure projects such as the expansion of an airport and a reservoir in Utah, according to local officials and plans for the areas.

Some sites would be considered for affordable housing, which is much needed in fast-growing parts of Nevada.”

LOL, lmao even. It took ~2 hours for this story to get even worse. It’s not all going to even get used for housing, but I’m sure the goalposts will get moved again.

Let’s see what the people who been championing this for such badly needed affordable housing have to say

If these places so badly needed affordable housing, for the population they currently have

Then how would creating more jobs and drawing in more people for those jobs help housing for the area??

How would it be determined if someone is here illegally?

we can pipe fresh water from somewhere else and turn the west into what the rest of the country looks like
If we put our minds to it we can get water to the undeveloped West. Pipe it in, groundwater mostly. The West has been turning into what the rest of the country looks like. “Alex I’ll take SLC and Bozeman for $1,000.” It’s not if, it’s when the lands will get developed. The more new people the faster it will happen. It’s our last Frontier, Federal Land and it’s disappearing. Just like barbed wire fence. No way to stop it, extremely difficult to slow down. I heard on the Charley Kirk show he said he loves new immigrants and we have vast land in the West for settlement. I thought Glenn Beck said the same.
