"DOI will work with HUD to identify lands to offload for the development of affordable homes"

Left gotta find something to complain about so they grasp whatever straws they can.

News flash, population is growing everywhere not just the West, it's growing even faster in other states. Housing isn't an optional problem to deal with.
what is something the West has ran out of, but elsewhere has not? hint: its required for life

This has been discussed ad nauseam at this point. Idgaf about some other states back east. You are on a forum that is 99% dedicated to hunting the west. This is a unique landscape, which is why everyone wants to come out here, and priority 1a. should be to preserve it as much as possible. If I wanted to live in some state that is 95% private land and packed to the gills, I’d move to some dump like Texas.

And for those keeping track, STILL none of you have addressed water issues / overcrowding.

Did you read the article? Of course not.

It states exactly what we were arguing...useless federal lands on the outskirts of metro areas with housing shortages are on the chopping block. Works out to fractions of a percent of land holdings FYI.

The alarmism in this thread is mind numbing.
who gets to decide what public lands is "useless"?

to a land developer all land is useless until its developed

I don’t know, we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. If there’s BLM ground that’s right next to town and the town is seeking to expand. It makes sense.
This is the entire issue. The lot of you are unwilling or unable to look beyond your own nose in favor of protecting your favorite political party. I voted for the guy and seemingly am the only one able to admit this is a dogshit idea, and potentially the worst policy ive ever seen. I’ll ruin the surprise for you: this will not be the end of it.

Because many of us don't want to give ANY support, aid, or even associate with any liberal organizations or politicians that are committed to taking away our liberty and freedom. We value our freedom and independence far above all else, EVEN perceived hunting opportunities.

So that means “your team” can do whatever they want, and you won’t disagree or call them out because that would be helping the “libs” or something? It seems like liberty and freedom are very important to you. I would think that would include being able think for yourself and speak out, instead of just nodding and agreeing. I guess we all have our own priorities and preferences for various parts of the constitution.

Yes I read it. Once again, we are ~100 days in, are you genuinely naive enough to think this will be the end of it? You also still, after weeks now, have not addressed the impact that bringing more and more people out west will have on the landscape. Of course you don’t care given selling houses is what puts a buck in your pocket. The issues and impact are not isolated to the land they will be developing. But I forgot, you’re the expert and we all know nothing…
Yup let's just prevent people from moving where they want to. Very American.

We love daddy government telling us what we can/can't do. You should go to a city planning meeting and see how everything works, you'd be a prized NIMBY for sure.

There are plenty of places in the West that'll never change, and you're welcome to move to any of them, just like others are to move to the popular spots.

Pretending that it isn't happening is what true naivety looks like, and ironically that's what leads to sprawl, fragmentation, and landscape destruction FYI, not the consolidation of PUDs on formerly public land contiguous to municipalities to up density.

At this point, there's obviously no facts that could change your mind, which is sad, but telling.

The politicians we democratically elect to represent where we live...kinda cool actually.

Swing by your local city council meeting and tell them what you value, it's your right

Overcrowding isn’t gonna get any better.

This thread is a perfect encapsulation of this entire forum. People arguing against their own best interests.

There is a lot of confusion on this forum and in the western hunting community about what you said right here. "Own best interest".

You are confusing your interest, the interest of the people posting here that are employed in conservation NGOs, federal employees, and people who want to hunt on BLM lands with "my own best interest". See this issue is in all those people's financial interest. Not mine. I have never hunted, visited, nor plan on doing so the areas in the article. Furthermore, the resident hunters of those states are very adamant that they do not want me to hunt or acquire tags in those locations. So lets not get it confused.

But how is it alarmism? The same strategy is used to strip away hunting and guns rights. Little by little. Get a toe in the door, set a precedent, and keep working on it until it's all gone. It will not end here.

Aside from that, what the national resources committee approved to sell is not limited to housing development. It is also for resource extraction or whatever the buyer seems appropriate for economic progress.

lol you're hilarious. It's obvious you don't care about other places, you're solidly in the "not in my backyard" position with your posts here but that's not the way anything works. You think nobody addressed water issues and overcrowding? That's literally what I just mentioned, it's everywhere, everyone has water issues, but you think you're special because you see everything through your lens I guess. San Antonio local news is talking about water issues daily, we can't water our lawns. As for Texas, three of the fastest growing cities in the US are in Texas, there's a reason for that. I could live anywhere in the states, damn sure ain't gonna be CO lol.

”but but but it’s happening everywhere” is not a solution or a valid excuse. Nowhere else in the country experiences droughts with the frequency and severity that the west / California does. The Colorado River system is in crisis.

Say whatever you want but you sure as shit like to come out here and hunt on our land. And yea, I am nimby, I don’t want to see these places ruined. That’s not an insult to me so try another angle.

They all do. Much like celebrities that fly around in private jets and preach about climate change, the "muh public layands" screechers come running to buy when a new subdivision is built in the west.
this is called a straw man. you made this up in your head and apply it to anyone with a different opinion.

I will probably never use any of these "useless" public lands but my kids, or your kids might. we should be stewards for future generations. plant the tree that you won't live long enough to enjoy the shade of.

It's alarmism when a decision orders of magnitude smaller than those made by the previous admin (sacrificing public lands for "clean energy") is deemed as incomprehensible...while there wasn't a peep from any of the complainers on this thread from 2016-2020. When millions of acres, not thousands, were volunteered for permanent destruction for the green energy agenda, crickets...

The dichotomy in response is glaring

The solution is depopulation and stop the tens of millions of people crossing our borders. I'll hold my breath while you start advocating for those. I'm not trying to insult you with your NIMBY approach, just pointing out that it's selfish attitude that's all me me me. I do like to take your Elk and gtfo as fast as I can back to the coast, best of both worlds.

That is also something I am against. However, the difference is that it is potentially reversible and the land is still in the public domain.

This is different. Once it's gone it's not coming back. Much more permanent. And it opens the door to a whole lot more going forward.

It's because NPR wasn't telling them to be outraged by that.

I voted for that actually. The numbers have been less than impressive and need to be increased ten fold. I can advocate for that and what I am here simultaneously. The suggestion that I lean left is laugh out loud funny
