Colorado releases first 5 wolves

So your solution to keep these wolves is just keep feeding them cattle? Weird... May as well be in a zoo then.
Who said that? Thanks for trying to put words in my mouth. Nice try. Please re-read my post and quote where I said we should feed the wolves cattle…I will wait…y’all never graduated HS in this thread. Can’t read, can’t formulate any meaningful thoughts, assume everything, get offended at facts, etc. clown show…whats the name of your circus? Because this can’t be real.

You're happy they're eating cattle instead of Elk. Enjoy your zoo wolves, nothing natural about them. Should've left the poor things where they were kidnapped from so they wouldn't keep getting shot in Wyoming trying to go home.

Not an anti hunter. Just anti BS. I read plenty of cries about how the “elk would all die off or be killed within 5 years” hasn’t even gotten close. Thanks for pointing that out by addressing the age of the thread. Makes my point more valid. You’re a true G for that! I eat wild game as probably 80-85% of the meat I consume. I haven’t paid for beef in years. Lol

You’re literally talking to a life time hunter and former elk hunting guide. Keep blabbering though
I am still waiting on the wolves to wipe out CWD. The wolf activists were confident if we reintroduced wolves they would eliminate CWD. How are we looking on that?

Regardless of where you sit on this issue, you have to admit it has been a complete $hitshow. CO voters are not happy about the constant drama and being lied to about the cost. From a conservation perspective, we get to listen to the crazy wolf people rant and rave at every single CPW commission meeting, wasting time when there are plenty of other wildlife species in trouble that deserve our attention.

Definitely troll account.

Zero facts in anything you said. And yeah, I’m down for the wolves to eat more cattle than elk. Isn’t that the siren call the industry used to get votes in opposition? You’re seriously dumb. Idk how to be more nice about that

Just saying man. Everyone said the wolves would slaughter the deer and elk. Only thing being a killed and people being truly upset about is cattle. I’m simply calling out the BS that some hunters conjured up in their heads. That’s all bud. Wolves have come into the county where I live and hunt. Went scouting last weekend. Saw plenty of healthy elk and no sign of wolves. lol I’m just using what people said against them and now it’s blasphemous? FOH who wants to eat beef anyways? Stuff gross AF. I tell that same stuff to my family in TX who own the largest livestock auction in the state of TX.
Nope there are loads of elk being killed, there is no reporting on it, since there are no elk ranchers out riding around looking for kills. Buddy of mine has found 2 wolf kills just scouting last summer about 500 miles apart

I don’t recall anyone saying it would be over in 5 years. I firmly believe it’s going to take 15-20. The issue that many here have/had is the fact that an apex predator was introduced via ballot and there is NO management plan. They will never be hunted ever, they are also mandated to be on every piece of habitat in the state. It was a blatant attack on consumptive users.

Anywhere that wolves have been established they have cut tags by 10% so what happens when more and more packs get established? They will cut more tags. If you think that a state that is 6x-10x more populated than Montana or Wyoming and receives roughly 90 million tourists a year should have unchecked wolf populations and won’t have problems, you have something else coming

So you’re a Texan who moved up here and wants to tell us how it is… very on the nose for ya. So you never eat beef? Coming from a giant livestock auction family oh okay… 👌 keep on keeping on bub, how many elk have you killed in the last 5 years?

Don’t feed the troll. Best just to ignore it as it. There are constructive ways to disagree in discussion, this is obviously just trolling. Ignore.

Read the book wolves of Alaska, and you will see that when wolf populations grow too large they can decimate moose and caribou populations, leading to wolf die off and very little wolf or game animals for many years.

If the wolf numbers in the lower 48 grow too large, elk and deer populations will eventually decline, wolf populations will decline, and it will be a long while before they recover. You just don’t have enough wolves yet to remember history

He's just a FOS troll pushing buttons, and zero chance he's actually from Texas. Probably a pasty white basement dweller from Portland thinking being from Texas gives him some clout but doesn't realize this is RS and that's a negative. He couldn't kill an Elk if he hit it with his Prius. :ROFLMAO:

"loads of elk being killed"...and your buddy found TWO, 500 miles apart...Do you realize based upon that sample size, I think we are ok Bud. 4 elk were killed on private lands like last week near Cuchara...thats double what your buddy saw. They only took backstraps off one bull....at least the wolves eat the entire thing and so do other critters. LOL That is worse than any wolf IMO. I recall tons of people saying the time frame was way short for how long elk would last. I dont need to find receipts on youtube comments on the 100's of videos of people complaining...in fact, probably more videos were made in opposition to the ballot measure than actual elk killed by wolves. How would a management plan be made for a species without knowing its actual impact? You realize Moose were reintroduced to Colorado in 1978 and it took 7 years before a season of hunting was even allowed. 7 years before management really started. It was a species that could have out competed many other species and definitely had an impact on the environment. Its not all about another species being killed...there is more to environmental impacts than species being killed by another...or nature as some people call it. You were the one complaining about it being a "Zoo" yet you also complain that they have the right to roam any piece of land within the state...LOL which is it bro? Last time i checked there isnt a fence around the entire state of CO to support your "Zoo" theory....smfh. The tags were cut because of the overcrowding during OTC seasons. I have filled out my end of season questionnaire thing for CO each year and I always say how overcrowded it was. I know that was a huge factor in cutting tags...and those tag cuts were to NR tags bud. Not so much on the resident side. I really have no idea what tourism and human populations have to do with wolves being an issue. LOL whats the correlation there? If more and more packs becomes a thing, they will form a management plan. I think wolves impact is lacking data and will have more substantial evidence in the future and I can only imagine the people who are educated in this stuff will form a plan as they have with any other species reintroduced anywhere in the state.

I would say that one guy finding wolf kills on random scouting trips in two different parts of the state months apart is actually a pretty good indication of loads of elk being killed. One of the kills was gutted, it was a cow she was likely pregnant but very little else was eaten, I guess the other critters will clean up?
Yeah we all agree poaching is the worst no one is arguing that at all.

Oh bub, never talked about it being a zoo.

It is in the legislation that you are so in favor of that they will never be hunted ever you know that right? There will NEVER be a hunt, not in 5-7-15 years, would have to get the legislation altered to allow for hunting of wolves

LMAO im not from TX. My family is. I was born in NM and my family moved to CO in 2004. I have killed more elk in the last 3 years than you will in your entire life. LOL

Can you NOT READ?!

Yeah, you dont understand science or math; clearly dont understand sample size. "likely pregnant" how would you know? That is straight up assumptions...just like youre assuming it was a wolf kill. I found a dead elk this spring and it was definitely not a wolf kill. And yeah, the other critters had already demolished it. Ever seen crows on a gut pile? LOL Again, your ASSUMING there will never be a hunt. Everything you mention is based off an assumption you are making based upon feeling and ZERO facts bro. The only ones you mentioned pertained to human populations...are you serious right now?

Here is some actual evidence or factual information on how an elk will be consumed by nature. I found this on shed opener...

Hey retard it is in the legislation that there will never be a hunt. How many times do I need to tell you. It is written into the legislation. Wolves are non game species and never will be. You will never legally shoot one in Co, unless you are defending yourself or a rancher who catches one in the act of killing livestock.

He wouldn't do that, he likes it when they eat cattle because it keeps them from killing elk.
I do. I like to eat elk. So why wouldnt I rather have them eat more cattle? That means more elk for my freezer and belly. Pretty good pre-race fuel for an UltraMarathon too. I must add.

It is also funny to me you said I was "pasty white" when your forum name is "HairyScandaiavian"...last time I checked Scandinavia is pretty white bud....youre seriously a joke. You just name call and grab for anything factless and then get told and shown whats up, then come up with some other thing to disregard the facts and evidence thrown in your face; deflect, deflect, deflect. It is like dealing with a kid who cant admit defeat...so sad

Hey Tex why don’t you get back to running ultra’s and rubbing elbows with your cattle dealing cousins, seems like your running shorts are in a bunch if you have to come stir the pot on old ass threads? Huh? How about it bub?

Since you're talking about 'facts' and 'what's up', here are a few facts for you...

I run cattle in wolf country here in CO, have been involved with the reintroduction process since 2021 (including being one of the first dozen non-lethal hazing permit holders), and have stood over more dead cows and calves than I care to think about. Your take on things is pretty far off base from reality, especially in the areas around where they have dens. There are plenty of elk, moose, and deer being killed by wolves, along with lots of cattle 'going missing' out on pasture or grazing permits that will never be found. I've seen carcasses picked clean, and I've seen animals killed and not a bite taken out of them for consumption. I've watched the behavior shift in the wild animals, and have seen the changes in my own cows after a wolf (or wolves) have come through.

The reality is that your infrequent visits from the city into country with wolves gives you zero perspective of what it really is like trying to live and work around them on a daily basis.

Regarding your post about an eventual management plan; there already is one. Not that it has been followed, but it is 270+ pages long and established by the working groups prior to and through the reintroduction process. They stopped abiding by the parts that don't present well to city people pretty quickly. I told our DWM they needed to shoot each wolf and pup in the Copper Creek Pack while they had them captured, or they would have to track down each one later and do it then. The capture & relocation of that pack was against the management plan. Letting depredating parents bring up pups was against the management plan. Lo and behold, they have been letting the air out of that pack all summer as the pups depredated on livestock exactly like the parents brought them up to.

Most wolf-livestock conflicts aren't making the news anymore, primarily because CPW is pushing to classify as many depredations as possible as indeterminate in an effort to keep public perception of the program in a positive light (and in the black on the budget).

3.5 miles back in the middle of the sangres… where there aren’t supposedly any woofs, big coyotes huh? Make a size 12 boot seem small, rotting elk carcass was right near it
