Colorado Draw results 2023

Looks like the former OTC turned draw units are no longer a safe assumption for a second choice tag. Neither a buddy or I drew it and there have been leftovers going into the secondary draw since the change.

same boat here. 1st time in along time I haven't had a tag.
Never thought I'd be so happy to see a buddy draw a tag so I could drag along, and put myself thru sleepless nights and pain and hopefully heavy packs and sore backs just to feed the passion.

Well OK. My son and I drew 1st rifle either sex in some units we've hunted before. Game time. Good luck to everyone!

I wonder if that is what happened in my area. First year for archery draw, we all drew it as second choice. I kinda wonder if a lot of guys just weren’t paying attention and will have hurt feelings when they try and buy a tag.

Just now got an email.

What a phenomenal year! No Arizona (of course,) Oregon, and can’t even get an OTC/general in Idaho, Montana, or Wyoming anymore. Now officially no Colorado.

I think that pretty much wraps it up.

Yelp, First time I haven't drawn it AS third choice also. Probably has left over Resident tags.. lol

Even as a resident i didnt get the recently turned points units as a secondary last year. Talk about disappointed. So im not surprised this year the odds of a secondary draw for it have gotten worse.

I get to hunt our newest archery draw unit. Still gonna be a lot of people, but it’s home.
Got a ML tag there this year. If you need help with a packout let me know. Its my 1st year ML hunting, and my first time in that unit. We will see how it works out.

Not sure if people know this but 2nd/3rd choice draw units do not hold the same 65/35 R/NR quotas… which is another reason why Co continues to bone us R folks. So if you thought you would draw it as a second easy it is more of a gamble. Next year we will get 75/25 which is a small step in the right direction

I'm tagging along with a buddy for our 4th elk hunt. We were successful on #2 and #3 then took a break to chase other species. Excited to get back in elk country.

Anyone know when the draw recap report will post? I was skeptical he would draw, would like to see the stats.

It also shows that people value that preference point, that has fading value over time, more than the limited hunt.

I'd LOVE to see the preference point hunt code go away, and a rule where you can't gain a point unless you apply for a hunt code that drew with the amount of points you have or less the year prior.

Completely agree, I think you hunt or you sit out you don’t get to hunt and get points, bad idea whoever came up with it…

I'm ok with people gaining a point and hunting, but I'd like to see them gain that point by applying for something they are eligible to draw.

I think it would cause a couple years of point jump, and then a drastic reduction that has a sustainable minimum spread of needed points for all units.

I definitely see the cascading waterfall effect going on with points. Seems like a few guys chase points on a particular unit until they give up and "dump" their points on a lower point unit causing that unit to then jump up. Starts from the premium units all the way down to the mid level.

I know I may be guilty of this soon..... I wish I had used mine years ago

I decided to burn my less than a handful this year. I'll never catch the 'premium' units and wanted a win this year.

I got my rejection email. Feel bad for you younger dudes, the sport is starting it's death spiral. Happy for the good memories but I have enough good years and health remaining that it's still
disappointing. Sad to see where Western hunting is headed.
