Some of my selfbows

Beautiful work. I’ve only completed one from a red oak board. I had some trouble with the tillering, but fairly pleased with it for my first attempt. I’m slowly working on a hickory bow now from a tree I harvested locally.

Those bows are awesome. This winter I’m going to make a board bow and try to hunt primitive next season.

I’ve made some myself. Osage is nice but I prefer hickory because it’s way more plentiful, easy to find trees that produce a great 72” stave and I can strip the bark immediately and get it drying. I’ve been away from making bows for a couple years but hope to pick it back up this winter.

Nice work, Caleb. I've made a few. Usually build over the winter, made 5 between Christmas and turkey season in mid-April.

Great looking bows. And apparently they shoot well too.

I built one ash longbow from a good board and really enjoyed shooting it. It was a thumper in the hand though (D shape Longbow). It started to splinter after a thousand arrows or so. What a feeling of accomplishment to make and shoot your own.

I really admire your craftsmanship. Very talented.

I've always wanted to make one. I have a Yew stave drying going on 21 years...
I've got staves (Osage, hickory and pecan) over 20 years old too. I keep them in an empty bedroom (kids are grown). My wife keeps asking if they are ready to become a bow.

Yew is a beautiful wood but not easy to get around here. I had to trade osage for yew at Mojam probably 10 years ago.

Caleb could you ID the skins? Great looking bows!

I’ve thought about making one for quite a while. Watched a bunch of different vids on YouTube university, but I haven’t decided to go for it yet. Tillering looks like an art. Your bows look amazing.

Sturgeon fish skins, timber rattlesnake, and Bermese python
