WSM cases are a magnum bolt face.If a guy can use the standard bolt face, that could be a really nice option for the Tikka.
Darn it.WSM cases are a magnum bolt face.
Trade a bolt if you really want to dabble in that cartridge.Darn it.
Roger that... I'd go whole hog if I go this route. Sell my .25-284 Redding dies, brass, loaded ammo, and barrel. I'd probably sell my extra 7-08 barrel as well. There's nothing the .284 can do better than a 25-300 WSM unless I'm missing something. If I need a rifle that can shoot heavier bullets I always have my (daughter's) 7-08.Trade a bolt if you really want to dabble in that cartridge.
Or, send it to someone like Karl Kampfeld w/Kampfeld Custom and he can open up your Tikka bolt face to fit the magnum case head.Trade a bolt if you really want to dabble in that cartridge.
Not yet, I want to have actual load data and muzzle velocities first. Couple more weeks and I'll have the barreled action back to start load dev.Spill the details on your wildcat

Tikka with LA bolt stop and L mag.
Does anybody know if the 300 WSM requires a magnum bolt face in the Tikka?
I just checked, and PBB chambers in 25-300 WSM.
Redding has FL die sets in 25-300 as well.
Kind of a strange deal and I don't know how accurate this is but ADG lists the case capacity of their 270 WSM as having 84gr H20 and their 7 PRC at 80gr H20.I didn't know that ADG was making 270 WSM brass. It "should" be a simple one step neck down from .277-.257 with a .25 WSM FL or bushing die.
It looks like case capacity is around 79 grains. So I believe that puts it in between the SAUM and the larger .257 WBY and 7PRC.

That is a little strange for sure. I have Gordon's pulled up, and it has the 270 WSM at 79.7 grains of H2O. To get some ballpark figures for the 25-300 WSM, here is a quick simulation I ran on the 270 WSM with 69 grains of N560, 130 grain SST, and an 18" barrel. MV is 3,014 with software generated seating depth, etc..., and this is still under max pressure. Pretty hopeful numbers for a 130 class 25-300WSM load, but would depend on when a guy hit pressure.Kind of a strange deal and I don't know how accurate this is but ADG lists the case capacity of their 270 WSM as having 84gr H20 and their 7 PRC at 80gr H20.
I'll know in a week or so when mine gets here how accurate the listed case capacity is for ADG 270 WSM brass.
I only have Hornady 7 PRC brass but I'll measure the case capacity of that to see what it is.
Case size, barrel length, and bullet weight being equal a larger caliber/bore diameter is almost always going to yield faster velocity then a smaller one. That is a little strange for sure. Due to reduced pressure correct? Wide mouth bottle vs. a standard?Case size, barrel length, and bullet weight being equal a larger caliber/bore diameter is almost always going to yield faster velocity then a smaller one.
Same pressure is more force on the bullet as the bore area is larger. Thus is accelerates faster.Due to reduced pressure correct? Wide mouth bottle vs. a standard?

Thinking this through a little more...
Actually fairly simple process, and I'll ping this thread if/when the ads go up.
- I could just have my current barrel rechambered into 25-300 WSM. It has less than 100 rounds on it and is already 7.5 twist. Thank you to whoever may ahve already suggested this.
- I would either need to trade bolts or get current one bored out. (usually a guy on classifieds wanting to trade magnum for standard)
- I would sell my 25-284 brass and loaded rounds (I could pull the 134s and collect the H1000, but that would be a PIA)
- I would sell my Redding 25-284 dies and replace with Redding 25-300 WSM dies
- More than likely sell my extra 7-08 super lite barrel
