I have my grandmothers 14" and a 10" that was my wife's grandmothers. Cant even read the brand on the bottom but I have worked at it for the 20 years I have had it, both by sanding and scotch brite pads. It's super smooth and really only takes a bit of hot water and some scrubbing with scotch brite to clean out if there is something super sticky . Slicker than any of our so called non stick. Has to be at least 70 years old. cant imagine anyone dumb enough to buy a $400 pc of cast iron.

Let the steak sit at room temp for one hour. Pat dry and right before it goes on add your Montreal steak seasoning.

Cast iron in the stove during the warm up to 450. Place pan on burner over med-hi and put down some beef tallow. Sear for 30 seconds, flip another 30 seconds then into the oven for 3-4 min. Remve and flip then back in until its cooked the way you like it.

You forgot to mention a very important part:

Be sure to turn the range hood fan on high, or your kitchen will be smoke filled 👍

The beef tallow is way better than butter from a smoke standpoint but yes, you'll want that on too.

All this steak talk is making me wish I didn't bring a salad for lunch.

When I first saw that I thought it was a joke. It makes me question the price/performance ratio of their other products even more than I already did.

Yes sir. Cast iron puts a heck of a crust and makes a mighty fine sear on a steak.

And a hamburger too.

Those look great. I don’t have an outdoor space for a grill in my current apartment so I’ve been doing steaks on my cast irons. I just have some Lodge pans, all I’ve done is season them. I’m getting to the point where I’m getting better steaks off the cast iron than the grill.

Got this American Wagyu ribeye as a gift, started in the oven at 275 and then got the cast iron screaming hot to sear it. I think I could have eaten 5 of them, it was glorious.

All you laughing about a 400 dollar pan I suggest you never go to le cruset, those enameled pots and pans will blow your mind. But if my wife fancy cook wear who am I to argue. She doesn’t give me too much grief for 2k rifles, 1k suppressors and I think they seem the same to her as high dollar pots seem to me haha

I was gonna say. Yall guys are missing out. I have several le creuset pieces. still cheaper then the yeti and much prettier.

I can see it now, you take some very good looking woman on a camping trip (this woman you have been perusing to go camping for a long while and she finally agrees) you get a very nice camp set up and long comes time to eat, You have really planed out a fantastic meal of top choice beef steaks, lobster, all the fixings and a very good wine, get the fire going put out the cooking irons, Then she gets this look of horror on her face, Looks you square in the eye and yells BUT ITS NOT A YETI. Looks to me you will be camping alone. Kinda like NO YETI NO NETTI situation.

If you must spend outrageous money on a cast iron skillet, at least buy a hand forged one from Riley Kirkpatrick at Kirkpatrick forge. His are beautiful, and he hand forges them in small batches in Oregon. And he's a hunter. Support small business.
I almost bought one of his ash trays a while back. He’s incredibly talented! I’d say if I see one pop up for sale again he’ll have my money.
