The actual increase amount for elk is $682. Certainly some will not be able to afford it, but one does not have to be rich to afford that increase. Plenty of DIY guys will ante up.
Thanks… Still not happy about it, but I probably spent $682 on hotels, fast food, and other dumb shit I didn’t need from gas stations along the way last year. Waaaay, way cheaper than an outfitter.

For me personally, one extra OT shift and that’s pretty much covered.

Definitely a barrier to entry for for new guys that need gear/bows/guns/etc on top of it.

I might just let my points expire. It isn’t the money, it just seems they don’t want me there. Plenty of other places to spend my money.
Let's be honest, no state/residents want non residents in their state. But this increase won't slow non residents down. No state has hit the monetary threshold where people flat out stop going. So until that point is reached expect non resident prices everywhere to continue to increase.

It is not the money. I won’t save money going to AK instead. It is more the vibe the last few times I have been up and the constant efforts/tone I get. Not worried about how much, more of who I give it to. They get enough of our federal dollars already.

It sucks it’s getting more expensive. But I say that about everything these days. Don’t know what I’ll do. Maybe it will price me out, and I’ve been in the special 6 of last 8 years. I’ll worry about it next January.

WYFG:
For one low monthly payment of $164.99 you too can apply for the Wyoming special elk draw! But that's not all campers, act now and we will only charge you additionally for your conservation stamp, archery stamp, etc. Etc. . .

Guys on rokslide:
This, this, this is outrageous! Criminal! Down right evil! The audacity of these guys! I'm done, it's over! (Jumps into $70k and rolls his $2000 tires in protest!). I'll just take my $28,000 of gear and play in someone else's playground!!!

Ok I'm done, yes it sucks, no I don't like it, but if it thins enough guys out of the special I just might put in for it next year! I mean lots of stuff cost money, just decide what your willing to pay and make it happen, maybe your elk obsession turns into an upland bird obsession. Just got to make things work however they can!
That’s where I’m at with waterfowl it was always number one but with the new dog and getting into playing dog games we can travel all over and do a lot of hunting for the cost of one out of state elk hunt for a week. I have some points in Wyoming that I’m just going to forget about.

The attempt to increase the frequency of outfitted clients drawing because of this increase is going to be a failure in my opinion. DIY guys that have been applying special will continue to do so. I also believe special Elk apps actually increase as previous regular price diy guys do whatever they can to draw.

I'm sure you could find someone who would find your points mutually beneficial.

Arse'oles to the entire lot of em.

I've enjoyed my time in Wyoming, but they've seen the last of me now. I flat out just can't afford to hunt there anymore. I was pissed when my moose points became frigging worthless, but this price hike & consequent regular point creep on top? Screw em.
Screw Newberg. Screw Buzz. Screw the BHA & especially screw the WOGA, without a courtesy spit. 🖕🏻

I don't think this new special price increase will do much to improve the elk draw odds for the guys willing to pay. Guys can substantiate $2K for an elk. What I do see is the Antelope odds getting a lot better for folks willing to pony up that kind of money for a stink goat. Deer will probably land somewhere in between.

WY is where people go to get the F away from everyone else and live in peace.

Anybody showing up for any reason gets that feedback.

I agree. If the increase does make special odds substantially better it will be for a short period of time until DIY guys see the increase in odds and start to justify the price and then it’s going to end up right where it’s at now.

It might change things on general tags where the gap between regular and special widens a little more then it is now but I don’t ever see a time where a special 0 point app is drawing a general elk tag unless it’s in the random.

Problem is I don’t want to use vacation to go elk hunting. I only have so much time with the dog and I get more joy out of watching him bring back a hen spoonbill now than spending a week out chasing elk. Going to Arkansas for three days of timber hunting for damn near the cost of just the elk tag next year.

Have you been to AR? My brother in law went some years back. Limits in minutes of opening shoot time. But they DO NOT like non residents there. At all.

No I haven’t but that’s why I’m going with a guide. I have some friends down there guiding snow goose hunting right now and a in law that has hunted with a guide. No way I would want to go do it on my own watching boat races at the launches and all that stuff. Having meals cooked and a nice place to stay and all the scouting and set up done is worth the price.

This statement is bullchit.

Everyone goes on vacation and travels out of state. Hypocritical bs.

The money means nothing. The political bend is what means something. It is just the first step of many that are coming.
For hunting? I'm not talking about casual vacation scenarios.
