I do believe the idea of "state owned game" could easily be challenged and re-challenged in the courts depending how much time , money, and motive somebody has . I have always wondered when a deer hits my truck why i cant send the repair bill to the state of minnesota after all they are they legal owner and responsible for their deer's action

But the important thing to remember is you can still complain about it on the internet. 😀
I could, but I enjoy hunting in the state I reside in so much, I rarely hunt outside it. And when I do hunt in another state, I'm kinda just grateful for the opportunity....instead of complaining about it.

Lol. Growing up in Michigan, I'd have like to be able to bill them. I had my first car/deer accident at 16 in my parents car, low speed, in the city limits. This was back in the days when there was extreme overpopulation and antlerless permits were very limited.

You and me both, that was an attempt at sarcasm.

You should really read up on the public trust doctrine. States don’t “own” the game.

….and then we wonder why residents of Wyoming have a chip on their shoulder when it comes to non-residents. Kinda disheartening to see the level some will stoop to on this thread. They owe us nothing. We are guests. Behaving as such will get you much further. I love hunting there and hope that they continue to make room for non-residents. I think it makes sense from a financial perspective for the state to have non res hunting, but that’s ultimately not my choice to make. I’ve met some great Wyomingites who support NR hunting in their state, and sharing the tradition and resource. The federal land arguement isn’t valid, and about the last thing we want is the federal govt getting (more) involved in the politics of hunting.

If it makes anyone feel better I would gladly pay NR tag fees if it did away with NR's.

Fact is Wyoming reserves the right to allocate tags the way they see fit. As a WY resident I have zero say in how any other state decides to allocate tags or what they charge. It's pretty simple.
The problem with that as many many Residents couldn’t afford to pay $2k for one elk tag, they would then just poach.

Most of those complaining have no clue of how much state fish and wild life revenue is generated from nonresident. They're also UNAWARE that their way of thinking would prevent a HIGH percentage of their residents from hunting.

Elk tags cost 2k?
Pretty sure he means if NR hunters were booted out of WY and residents had to make up the difference to generate revenue to the state that NR currently contribute. I could be wrong...

I think in MT we could 2x-3x current Resident license costs and make it up. I could do the math when I get back from MTN grouse hunting

Naw he said he would gladly pay the NR tag fee if NR‘s were no longer allowed a tag, I gave him the special tag price we get next year.

I think in WY if they charged residents $350 they would make up the diff as well, problem is maybe 10% would pay it, then who knows how many would stop hunting and how many would just poach.

Honestly, it would be hard to gather support.

Residents will come out of the woodwork to say an extra 50-100$ a year will bankrupt them. All while they crush beers/cigs/chew at record pace.

Our Resident tags cost are a joke
Yeah I bet a large majority would be pissed to pay more then they do now.
