Yeah, I'm late to the party, but I only just joined the site.
Count me in with the folks who mentioned that tomorrow is promised to no one. Or the old proverb that, "the last shirt has no pockets."
Some estate planners once told me they explain retirement to their clients in terms of, "Go-Go, Slow-Go, and No-Go." Early on, people wanna get out & see the country/world. Later on, age/aches cause them to do less, and/or do it more locally. Eventually, people will be in no condition to go anywhere: Father Time, and all that.
I know a fella who's in an enviable financial position: ridiculous wealth, ridiculous income, a wife but no other dependents. His enormous house has a Ferrari and a turbo Shelby Cobra in the garage. Both vehicles are on battery tenders, and he can't stoop to get in either car. No-Go, indeed.
My observation is that sheep hunts occur at the conjunction of cash (can you afford it?), career (can you get the time off?), cartilage (can you get up & back down the mountain?), and constitution (do you have the intestinal & testicular fortitude to get it done?). Sadly, these items align for only a few. For them, the choice is to head to the mountains with profound gratitude for the precious opportunity, or to postpone the adventure, possibly having it appear as a lifelong regret.
As blessed as we all are on this site, there are likely very few of us who'd talk openly about our accumulated wealth. For sure, I doubt there are many of us who'd like to HEAR someone else talk about it. But I could listen to stories about sheep hunts all day long.
Just my $.02.
And yes... please post pictures when you get back!
