Hey, thanks man. It made sense then, and it still does now. Jason will sell a ton more calls, and get a nice payday. Good for him and his family, and good for the MeatEater crew adding another great product?

It would except Stone Glacier has a clothing business competing with another one of their acquisitions. I suppose it wouldn’t be too hard to wind that down, sell it, or keep it like GMC vs Chevy

I could also see Exo or maybe Seek outside acquisition instead. Both of those have worked with First Lite. Or possibly even FHF-branded backpacks in the future

This is such graet news, and i look forward to the days when i can buy matching Vortex Keep Hammering Binos and a spatula dipped in in First Lite camo pattern with the Meat Eater logo engraved on the handle. I won't even need to hunt then, because the Elk will be so impressed and practically tripping over one another (and my new Schnees boots of course) to get to in my Yeti and onto the Traeger. *sips Black Rifle Coffee

One positive of branding. My son is 13 and is getting into hunting. Which gun was he attracted to you may ask.... the weatherby first lite edition.

So, if it helps even a little bit in keeping or getting people involved or excited to hunt or their gear then that's a positive.

It can get obnoxious for sure but it's not any different than anything else.

for the record, when this “empire” was nascent, they contacted me personally and asked for submissions and ideas. Maybe some others here were also contacted.

they did not choose any of my stuff, and in the end, I’m glad. The direction they went was NOT the direction I thought they were going, nor wanted to go.

jealously? No. I jave just gotten weary of hunting becoming a “thing” and all the garbage that comes along with it.

I’ve never liked hunting in itself being a “business” thing. I do like hunting stories and especially good books. But not generating more hunters to sell them goods and being a “ fast-paced, high-output media operation and a thriving direct-to-consumer eCommerce business,” as they self-describe.

All the hype and whatnot...nah...

I'm probably being to literal, but "picking off" may have negative connotations and that may not be what you meant. MeatEater's going to buy what's a good match and what can grow and increase in value as part of their plans and network. Small companies that get "picked off" are often ecstatic that their company got bought and they get to have, in most cases, a regular job and not worry about payroll, cash flow, etc..

There are as many business models as businesses. I'm happy for the owners that wanted to sell and, hopefully, feel part of something that gives them a foundation. If ME screws former owners over, like a lot of holding companies have done, f'-em.

Yeah, I liked these companies before they got gobbled up and I still do. I'm not overly optimistic, though, for all the reasons stated.

Small, private companies aren't beholden to anyone and I like that. It's almost comforting to think about FHF or Exo having no inventory for a short period. Those small companies "building stuff in their basements" is more appealing than a neverending supply of mass-produced Chinese crap.

I put the over/under on my enjoyment of the meateater brands at about 4 years. I hope I'm wrong.

I always tell my kids that there is always going to be someone who is more successful, has a bigger house, a better truck, a nicer dog The key is to be happy with what you have and not worry about what somebody else does or has. Rinella is making his money. There are people that have a lot more than him and most have a lot less. I could care less either way except to how it impacts my ability to get another EZ Estrus. I used the one I have to locate and kill a 6x6 this year and might get a back up in case I loose the one I have. I try to keep things simple and not overthink it.
