ULUL Stainless/Portless 6x45 16" AR15 Barrel Group Buy NOW CLOSED

Glad this one got going!

I am still working on this project, but it will be a while. And, this is a great price when the group buy gets for a sweet price.

Bullet jump is kind of a “it is what it is” given mag well limitations of the AR platform.

None of these bullets will be loaded optimally - either from a powder standpoint, or a bullet jump standpoint, given that.

It’s possible a zero freebore reamer could be used. Problem is, satern would have to have it built. Cost goes up. Now, the argument could be made that it makes sense for any future barrel they make, but given the teeth pulling to get here - I wouldn’t want to try.

I certainly won’t take credit for discovering it, but the 87vmax seems to be the best option for the 6x45 and deer. 85SGK seems to get good reviews and is a known killer too. The 95NBT and 95SST are known killers that may be good candidates for the 6x45.

I have the following bullets if anyone wants a measurement in 6x45 case:

87vmax
95tmk
108eldm
90eldx
103eldx
100SGK
85speer btsp
100speer grand slam
100hornady btsp

As far as elk go - this just seems to be a carry on of the .223 and 6mm kill threads. There’s known bullets, they’ll just be limited on velocity in the 6x45. Which limits range.

My guess is that at 16” barrel, 2.37” oal, lever powder, LC brass, the following are attainable velocities:

108eldm 2400-2450
103eldx 2450-2500
90eldx 2650-2700
87vmax 2650-2700
100btsp 2550-2600
95tmk 2600-2650
85SGK 2750-2800

If you use 2000fps as a conservative min velocity, these get you to past 250 yards.1800fps you’re nearing 400 yards.

If you ask me - the ULUL is a system capable of shooting any North American ungulate out to 200 yards without much hand waving. If you want to go beyond that, you’re going to have a lot to do with success between 200-400 yards, maybe more than the gun.

Caveat on the QL velocity guesses. Sometimes bullet length is wrong in QL, and I don’t have all these bullets to measure. I listed what I have in my possession.

Brings up a good point - how much freebore does a 95 TMK need, seated at 2.37" in a windowed mag? That seems like the optimal setup for these guns, but I don't have any 95s.
I can check what jam was later today for my x-cal chamber. For the vmax and tmk. If I don’t have it, I have spares hiding around, they just might take a minute

My assumption is they have a saami reamer.

Honestly, a no freebore option would be best for an AR platform

Here is my suggested contour for the barrel. Without the radius at the chamber end, it would be .625”. I adjust the chamber to .825” long and then .825” for the taper then added the fillet. It is said that you want a slight taper in the straight section so I went from .525 to .520 at the muzzle. This combo would net right at 18.5oz for .243 barrel

I don't know why you didn't just use Powerpoint to make a good sketch I did, but I guess I can use that one instead. Thanks so much!

I can send it as a dxf file too. They should be able to pull it into their software and analyze it exactly as I have it modeled. I am doing a bit more research, but 90% sure I will jump in on this. Thanks for doing this!

Is your barrel 1:8 twist 5r rifling? Most satern/liberty barrels are button rifled 5r but all of the their 6 arc barrels are 1:7.5 twist. That’s the only 6mm AR barrels I see on their site.
1:8, don’t remember rifling and it’s not on their site anymore.

Sont have the barre in my possession currently.

Were you asking for 1/2x28 threads or 5/8x24? Looks like @Jesseb s pic is the latter. Either should work, but 1/2x28 would work fine on a 6mm (Kimber and others use it all the way to 30 cal - I have it on my 30 HRT barrel). OTOH, I'm not running a suppressor, so I don't really know the advantage of 5/8 over 1/2, but there may be some for people using a suppressor(?).

Good catch, I had specified 1/2-28, to keep consistent with these small guns likely also shooting 22 calibers. Will update.

I would rather it had no threads and get rid of the step/shoulder myself. Mo lighter weight! As it is I have to machine up a couple aluminum thread protectors.

Or cut the .5" off with a hacksaw, and polish with a button head brass bolt and valve compound in about 3 minutes!
