Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

I just bought one of the Warlick uppers right side charging what is the lightest bolt I can buy to cut off
DSA is one of the lightest, if not the lightest. Great lightweight carrier, but hopefully it has enough material to tap and thread and still be strong enough.

Would that be significantly lighter than the Solo bcg? Got me wondering if there are significantly lighter bolts out there also. I guess the bolts themselves would be unlikely to have more than a few grams of difference? I might be interested in changing something if it's not more than $30 and 1/3 Oz + of weight loss. I know, I'm crazy🤪

Are there factory ammo options in 6x45? Would like a 6mm barrel for my ULUL so I can hunt in WA but not a reloader.

Anybody got some 223 wyld velocities for 12” barrel? Thinking of going that route with the preorder on my thermal coyote rifle?

Hopefully less than 16oz... my bca barrel is 16.5oz with a gas journal... so i would expect that the same profile without the gas journal would be around 15.5oz
My instructions were to beat the BCA profile, or I wasn’t going to make the order. In conversations, I think he was going to test an even smaller profile, it was just being able to make money on the Barrel and be able to maintain the appropriate wall thickness While keeping it production.

These are so lightweight already, I don't think I'd want him to go any thinner walled. Even I would start getting nervous about strength and accuracy...😅 Since he's offering an MOA guarantee though, I guess he isn't!

For a string of 25-20 shots, it might be worrisome for accuracy... The couple of makers I have talked to are willing to go smaller for these "bolt action" because they won't be used for mag dumps, lol.

Great thread guys, love it.

I am in a state that requires a min caliber of 6mm, reading though this thread it sounds like on a straight pull 300 blackout, 6mm arc, etc have some rather annoying extraction issues.

Anyone try using bolt action uppers like from Uintah Precision or others? Or maybe some other solution to the straight pull uppers?

You should be great with a 300 blackout. Many on here (including me) are doing the 6X45, Which is a great solution if you reload. The 223 based cases like a blackout don't have issues. Its the larger case diameters, supposedly, havent tried them, like the ARCs.
I have a bear creek bolt action on a blackout right now. It's fine, but the straight pulls like a solo are better i think.

The Bear creek works but is heavy as is, contra purposes of the ULUL. I don’t like some quirks like the way the bolt closes and is spring loaded.

The 6x45 has great combos for inside 150 yards. Even out of a 12 I have seen reports I believe about varmint bullets that work fantastic at lower velocity in deer. Basically equal fragmentation to other bullets, just requires less velocity.

Which bullet? I got some 75 Vmaxs to try (with your upcoming barrel!) - should be able to get them to 27-2800. Also got some 85 Speer BTSP...

As mentioned, you'll be fine with any 223 based case in the Solo 300 upper. I've taken deer, bears and hogs at well over 200 yards with the 223 and it works fine. Deer at over 300 and one bear at 350, no problems.

@Taudisio does really well shooting his 6x45 out past 500 yards and I have no doubt he could easily take all of the above at that range.

If you're handloading, another point to consider: If running 223 cases at 5.56 pressures, especially with a windowed magazine, they make up for some of the lesser case capacity compared to the ARC cases. Those run at considerably lower pressures in an AR platform, although those cases definitely handle the longer bullets much more easily at typical AR mag length.

Unfortunately I don't reload, and am doing my best to not take on any more hobbies, so I really need commercially available ammo.
In that case, the 223 would be a good option. Quite a few good factory ammo options available, including 73 ELD-M and 77TMK loads.

Sorry...missed the 6mm min...! Druid Hill makes a few 6x45 loads, but limited choices compared to most other chamberings.

Not sure if 300BLK or 300 HAM’R would work for you, but no problem running them in the Solo (and 25-45 and 277 Wolverine and a few others that also have some ammo available)
