Yes I have considered sending in and sell that one.

As for being new to forum, not first time a forum or shooting a rifle

You posted a thread saying your scope wasn’t working and asking if others have the same issue. Now you are telling them “I know what I’m doing”?

Maybe it is warranted here. But I have seen so many flavors of the month come. Seen people bring up problem and told internet hysteria and then few years later hysteria if you use that product.

If you read the threads that people have linked to, you’ll see that it isn’t a “flavor of the month” or “internet hysteria”. The scope you have has persistent and inherent function issues.

I'll do some more shooting and elevate myself.

As you should. When you start a thread saying “help me”, and then not only ignore the help given, but start fighting against it, it doesn’t make people believe you understand what’s happening. A scope that doesn’t work is a scope that doesn’t work. They don’t get better just because you don’t use it much.

I see both sides here. Not everyone has the means to go drop another 2k on an extra scope. If his hunt is coming up quickly then it's likely that he doesn't have time to ship that one to Leupold, receive it back, sell it, and then purchase another scope, and sight it in. I don't think he's wrong in not wanting to sell the one he has.

With that said, I agree that if I've been planning a hunt for a while and it's all riding on this setup, then I would have zero confidence at all. Nothing would be worse than getting a shot of a lifetime and having it go poorly because of situation that you identified beforehand and could have avoided.

I think everyone is offering up good advice, but maybe the timing or the financial implications just don't line up for the OP, that's okay too. Maybe there's another solution here? Maybe he could borrow a friend's optic that is known to be good to hunt with while this gets straightened out? I think the key is that he gets something quickly and gets comfortable with it.

I am not fighting with you. I am not required by starting this thread to go buy the one you say. That's not fighting.

I hear you, that there are problems. I am not disagreeing.

I don't plan on dialing this scope. I am hunt 100-300 yards. Ill just a how high to raise zero.

If it doesn't hold zero I'll have to do something. Not a doubt. But I don't think that is today.

I also won't deny I am slightly skeptical that every thing Leupold makes us total junk idea. Been using them for awhile, as others have.

I feel I got my load and set up dialed in, and I think I can start to say it's not me. Now if I keep having issues. I will have to do something.

I would never borrow a scope for a hunt

I have to look up elevation. But would like to read that.

Do you see a big difference under 300 yards?

I was going to run some balstic apps to get a guess.

i had a vx5 couple years ago when they first came out.
it shit the bed on me.
instead of spending money on ammo trying to get good groupings just sell it and pick up
one of the scopes people mentioned.
I have absolutely no hate towards leupold it is what it is.
if they could make their mark 5 reliable it would be the perfect scope

I asked a question. You answered. Thank you.

I was having flyers. Then all the sudden a grouping that made me feel good about myself. So I adjusted scope, and then this thread.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll do some shooting and see. I am already here with rifle and bullets. I want to see for myself.

It's not an insult to you guys if I shoot my rifle. I believe you, thanks. But I can't get another scope by tomorrow.

Also not sure if I want 3x9 or 5x15. My normal close range hunting is 4.

My back up rifle will probably have a Leupold too. Unless I buy new rifle

I'll just say this. When I got my first Leupy I was ecstatic. It treated me good for a long time. No dialing (VX3), but also very little hunting and shooting. I didn't have a ton of money and it was a huge purchase for us. Standing in Bass Pro Shops around Father's day, salivating, my wife said "Happy Father's Day", get it. I just kept thinking it was normal having to re-zero every so often, and like I said, I didn't even shoot much as I couldn't afford ammo and didn't reload yet.

Fast forward 12 years or so. I still have it. It sits on the backup backup rifle in case we take someone new with us or want to sling some 270 lead for fun. When I strap my rifle to a horse this fall it will still be in the safe. My Nightforce SHV (see, not even the fancy one) is heavy, not as clear of sight picture, not as great of an eye box for me. But every time I spin the turret and pull the trigger, it seems to find it's mark. I'll carry the extra weight. One thing Form said that really stuck with me is that the scope is an aiming device. If it can't do that reliably, what is it good for? I get drawn to my son's Zeiss as the picture clarity reminds me of my Leupold. But for now, I trust what I have, and that feels damn good.

What does it normally cost?
Regular list price is $823 with msrp of $835.
So $538.44 is a pretty good deal. PLUS it has FREE 2 DAY shipping. Unless your state taxes is over 11.5% you could get it for $600 or less.

So it could be delivered to you day after tomorrow or could have been delivered to you tomorrow if ordered yesterday.

Pretty good deal on new a 3-9x40 that has a good reputation for being a solid aiming device and will probably save you and everyone else a headache of chasing your tail and wasting ammo down the road when the leupold continues to not function as a proper aiming device putting bullets where you want them every pull of the trigger.

I think a ton of people here really wish leupold scopes would function properly, myself included because they have a lot going for them other than not functioning properly.

I too use to think that I had some flyers and/or pulled shoots, thinking it was my shooting ability. Funny how flyers seem to disappear when using a different scope.

Unfortunately lots of people have just let rezeroing multiple times a year or chasing a good zero (like in your case) be the status quo of how scopes should function.

I hope that you have a successful hunt this fall and when you pull that trigger you have great confidence in your shot going exactly where your crosshairs settle.

It takes a week for prime to get here. So maybe not 2 day shipping.

I get your point.i started with old guns trying to work up loads. I did get 1 moa on 769 which they say you can't. But now think I am done with old or cheap rifles

Absolutely nothing wrong with old or cheap rifles, I've got several of both. That's not what I'm saying at all.
You don't have to have a new gun to shoot well, just something that's going to get that bullet exactly where you're aiming. Whether that be irons or a reliable scope.

Point being try a different scope and see if it works better than what you're currently having issues with.
