I like meat (and particularly red meat) just as much as the next guy, and the odds are good I will still have leftover corned beef and eat it on the 20th without a 2nd thought.

But the American love affair with beef is unequivocally unsustainable, and it is fairly obvious if you examine it critically.
This is a report from 2016 with predictions going to 2018 using the data at that time.

Look at the data, beef consumption is down, chicken consumption is way up. Pork consumption is also up. This report claims Americans eat on average 54 pounds of beef per year. If my math is correct that is 2.36 ounces of beef per day on average. I don't believe you can call that an unsustainable love affair.

After reading your quote i did a little research, every article I looked up for reference came at this from a slant that any meat is bad. The consensus is that Americans on average eat 8.76 ounces of meat total per day.

So where are you getting the idea a America has an unsustainable love affair with beef?

Already a #Coloradomeatin hashtag being spread around by a lot of restaurants here on social media for March 20th.

Don't forget that Polis has also appointed a vegan Ellen Kessler to the State Board of Veterinary Medicine.

It's probably from the same propaganda that they keep spreading that cows are somehow destroying our planet. Let's see here........animals have inhabited the earth since the beginning of time without issue..........but now suddenly they are a problem? Hmmmm......what's changed? Animals inhabiting the earth........or the exponential growth of morons trying to control the earth, and the people in it?

Sounds like a self-control problem, not a meat problem.

But agree on health being the issue he's trying to get at. Disagree with the message that meat is bad. Remind me again how cattle are a thread to the climate? I skipped that day in 'Progressive 101'.

The CDC just did come out with a study that said something like 80% of covid hospitalizations were from people who were overweight or obese...turns out heart disease is the real culprit...and if you live a healthy life, you stand a far better chance of not being effected by disease and virus.
Ahh, they fart!!

Not surprised so many people are getting butt hurt about this and missing the point. The problem with meat isn’t affluent folks eating an occasional streak.

There are TONS of people that eat at McDonalds every day. If you can’t see the profound impact on our climate and healthcare system this creates you are a fool, or just willfully ignorant.
It’s not about climate or the earth. Polis husband is a vegan and high up the chain of peta.

I"m feeding a baby calf on the bottle twice a day. He got sick at 2 weeks old and by the time I got him over it his mother wouldent take him back. When I went to feed him tonight, he had a sign that said " moving to Colorado.

For somebody who thinks people are missing the point you seem to be a little off target. “MeatOut” is the gov’s declaration. He doesn’t call for a no beef day. No scrimps, scallops, chicken, elk, deer, rabbit, squirrel, or even beef. Nothing to do with cow farts.

Mainly because that was the direction the first handful of posters took the thread.

But also because beef has by far the highest ecological footprint.

Was not aware of that, thank you for enlightening me. PETA is another one of those groups (not so different from the NRA) that goes about everything the wrong way and turns off folks without a strong opinion and absolutely entrenches the mindsets of their opposition.

For some reason I'm not able to upload the graph of our obesity rates since the 1980's but I think it's pretty much common knowledge that as a nation we're getting fatter at an alarming rate. I realize this shows correlation and not necessarily causation, but it's pretty obvious to me that it ain't the red meat that's wrecking our health. Beef consumption going down, obesity and all kinds of chronic health issues on the rise

Speaking of meat, I rarely eat beef because the good version is too pricey for me and I like to allocate my cholesterol intake to ice cream.

But my work cafeteria had smoke corned beef brisket yesterday.... Oh man it was good.

Something to look in to is buying from a rancher. My last load was right at 6.00/lb for some premium beef. That includes t-bones, ribeyes, roasts, tri-tip, ground, etc. And you can specify the cuts you like. It is the best beef I have ever eaten.

Or you can just buy a quarter or a half and butcher it yourself for even less.
