New Trucks

I've been driving my 2002 Silverado for around 200k miles since buying it new. Put a transmission in it around 10K miles ago, other than that, routine maintenance and a starter. I've bought houses for less than a new truck cost.

Towing capacity/payload capacity
All in jest...I certainly understand exceeding the limitations of a 1/2ton truck and needing more. I keep a 3/4 ton gas and 1 ton diesel in the stable for those purposes. Im sure if you decided to unload that tundra you'd get a premium for it now.
Have had offers to buy my wife's 2018 with 45k on it for what we paid for it new(Toyota employee plan pricing). Nothing else on the market that either of us would want to replace it with so she plans to run it as long as i can keep it going.
What is your planned or purchased replacement for your tundra?

It is because of stuff like this I am keeping my 2017 4 runner for another 10 years.

On topic my buddy just got a 2024 gmc 1500 loaded out with their small diesel in it. Runs great and has plenty of power when not towing. Tows his 26 or 28 foot bay boat just fine but the gas mileage when towing was not impressive. Maybe 15-16 mpg. Gas mileage on hwy non towing is like 27-28 ish.

He has a 100 k power train warranty. Probably a good call.
15-16mpg towing a boat that big is not impressive???? Hmmm, your buddies expectations are pretty high.

Nissan Titan. Had a 2018 F150 - 3.5 ecoboost, FX4, lariat, all the bells and whistles. Pile o shit. $30k in repairs in 3 years (all under warranty or I wouldn’t have had a vehicle).

Wanted out of that truck, and honestly wanted an “old” truck. The Nissan titan (now discontinued) hasn’t been touched in 20+ years. It’s still an “old” truck with some modern creature comforts. Has the big V8 they’ve made since 2004. No auto stop/start. E brake is still a mechanical pedal. It’s an old truck with CarPlay and seat heaters. Nissan factory warranty on them is 5y, 100,000 mile bumper to bumper, and my Nissan dealer pays for a 3rd party lifetime powertrain warranty if you buy one of their pre owned. Also, they don’t have a cult following so they’re far cheaper than other trucks. Best kept secret imo

That's what I was thinking! Anything over 10 while towing a big ol boat is a bonus! Basically if your towing occasionally, don't even consider mpg while doing such.

I am not confident in the dependability of the 1 ton options/ operating cost. Might just continue to get by with the tundra. I like the tundra I just over load it some times. I have looked at the 1 ton gas rigs or maybe the ford diesel.

A set of Dobinsons springs and RAS make a big difference there...or air bags
Proceed at your own risk exceeding payload or gvw ratings...but with a little help in the rear suspension department the tundra is much more capable than payload/gvw ratings would otherwise indicate.

My 2023 Chevy Silverado 3.0 has been a really good truck thru the first 30k miles. Awesome fuel mileage (25-26 empty ) tows my 7500# travel trailer like it's not back there. I did have too add air bags as the back end is soft and squatted too much with my travel trailer.

I run some Sumo bump stop springs on it right now. They seem to help, plus I have all my trailer tongues adjusted correctly. It pulls slightly over rated gvw just fine. ;) Just dont want to do it on multi-state trips. I dont know if you pulled a RV across I80 in southern Idaho during a wind storm, but its not much fun.
