Hip vent mesh

Just swapped some kuiu attacks for some FL corrugate foundry’s and started thinking about how the open hip vents can let all sorts of junk in and now I’m debating trying to add some mesh backing like the attacks have. Have any of you done this? How were your results and what material did you use?

FL makes some good hunting clothing but man they've missed the boat with no interior mesh lining on their pant hip vents. Will have to reach out to Steve R. and get that taken care (just joking). Seriously, what where their clothing designers thinking?

I know right! Other than that, I love the pants.

Take this with a grain of salt because I haven’t added mesh to existing openings, but if you have a sewing machine or can even hand stitch I don’t see why it would be too much trouble. I think it just depends on whether or not you care if you’ll be able to see the stitches from the outside. I’m not sure of a way to sew a mesh lining for those zippered openings without sewing through to the outside of the pants.

I’m using this mesh to line the pockets of a pair of pants I’m making and it seems like it would be great for that. It doesn’t have much stretch, it’s lightweight and seems as breathable as it would need to be. Pretty cheap too.

I took them by an alteration shop to check the price and they were like $120 so I said nah. Something about having to open up several seams to get it in the machine.

While I prefer mesh, I have pants with and without them and almost never have an issue with debris entering the pants unless I'm backcountry skiing and forget to zip up for the downhill in which case, I've had snow enter the vent (and go straight into my boot).

Yeah that makes sense. I think if you were wanting it to look professional you’d probably have to seem rip the zipper from the main fabric and then insert the mesh between them. That may or may not be worth your time to have what you’re looking for
