My ideal gun would be a cfr with a 3 position safety like my Ruger m77 hawlkeye. A trigger and smooth action like my tikka. Put a threaded 17 in barrel on it and a lightweight F1 scope that we all wish was available. Chambered in some version of a 6mm with a wood Rokstock.

The Montana rifle company & s2h Marshall might be what I’m looking for but not sure.

No, it’s the design. But also the sum of its parts. When Master Sporters have the right barrel, suppressor, and scope- they just feel right, and track excellently during recoil.

It’s about 11lbs as it sits now. I’ve had it down to 10lbs
How does the new Tikka sporter version compare?

Out of a tight budget my first gun was a Remington 700. At the same time I used to think a Ruger #1 would be the world’s best custom gun, but after owning a couple they can be temperamental accuracy wise. Then I thought a Mauser would be perfect, just like a fine British gun, but owning a Mauser until the newness wears off, it was a little heavy and felt sloppy. I thought if it’s going to be heavy one of the big fat cartridges would fun so a 1917 military was picked up to customize into any size cartridge, but once the newness wore off it’s such a boat anchor maybe something more main stream makes more sense. A Winchester came along that had a custom barrel and stock installed and I finally had the perfect rifle. One thing not in the brochure for the three position safety is it’s not easy to feel for without looking. Maybe a big Weatherby Mark V with a super Formula One cartridge would be the last rifle I’d ever need. We all have our limits and a big fat cartridge without a brake was too much for me to fire prone. I did contemplate a fancy custom receiver then a friend was having accuracy issues with an action worth more than my pickup and I learned what interested me most in a custom gun is accuracy and familiarity.

After all these years and being blessed owning most rifles I day dreamed about, I came full circle and learned the simplicity of the cheap Remington action fits me well. If I hadn’t experimented with all these variations I’d never know what I do and don’t like. Any custom gun that doesn’t start out with a lot of variety beforehand is doomed to be just another gun that seemed right at the time, but not a forever gun.

I put this 6mm creedmoor together this season and so far it’s been exactly what I was hoping for.

18” c6 barrel, Kelbly nanook action, McMillan mountain tracker lr, triggertech primary, Hawkins bottom metal and flush mags. Shoots incredibly well, terminal performance has been great, and no recoil.

Have a skltn ti on hand for my next build for no other reason than to make one as light as possible. Planning on a 16” 6GT with a swfa fixed 6 for that one. Should come in at 7lb with the suppressor when it’s finished.

That’s sweet, what’s the weight with the can and scope? And what are you shooting in it?

Right at 9lb with scope and suppressor. I use the asr brake and mount so direct threading would shave off another 6oz or so.

Handloading 108 Berger elite hunters in Lapua brass. They are averaging around 2940.

Sako 90 Peak (would also like to try a Sako Quest)
6 ARC cut to 16"
NF rings
SB 4-16X56 Polar T96
SiCo Omega can
Liemke Luchs-2 clip on

When I've shot out my Sako Carbonlite 22-250 or 243, I might try to have Preece Precision chamber one of these in 6 ARC. Sourcing a Sako bolt could be an issue

I don’t even know what a dream rifle is anymore. I’ve sort of started to not care at all about guns since I have plenty and focus more on shooting and hunting.

I guess an 18” tikka, UM rings, nightforce shv 3-10 or SWFA 3-9 and a nice silencer checks off all the boxes which is why I have 4 tikkas that would fit that.

Imagine if NF took feedback and made a 2.5-10 FFP mil with a decent hunting reticle. Sadly, they made their money on gov and leo contracts and hunting is an afterthought.
