Find me a pair of pants better than the Kuiu Katanas

Attacks are my go to...if it is really hot I just use Columbia quick dry pants. Not sure of the exact sku but the are really light weight essentially rip stop and I have beat the crap out of them hunting and fly fishing outwest...and I get them at the Columbia outlet for like $30 a pair.

Also if I don't need the vents Im getting more into just using Ariat Rebar Durastretch pants. $35-$50. I just can't see spending $150 on pants for everyday calm conditions.

I’ve worn the same Prana Zion pants hunting, camping, hiking, fishing, working in the yard, etc for about 10-11 years now. A few burn holes, small tears but other than that good to go. Cheap, breathable, stretchy, and durable really can’t be beat.

Kutanas are the best pants Kuiu sells. The temp range is about 30* to past 110*. The material is durable. They are like the Energizer bunny; one pair keeps on going and going.

The second best pants from Kuiu are the Pro Brush. They have a sizable temp range, cooler side, due to the inner thigh and hip vents. They do exceptionally well when dealing with brush that snags, such as cat claw. They do a good job at cutting the wind as well as shedding some moisture.

Fjallraven Keb are tits. I lost some weight which is the only reason I’m buying new pants. Good ventilation, can be used as a gaiter to clip to your boots - the g1000 is easy to renew with some wax and a hair dryer.

Prana Stretch Zion's are the benchmark. Everything gets compared to them....... and thus far, nothing has dethroned them. First pair I bought 14 years ago and I just wore that same pair last week hiking in Peru. I am pretty sure I own every color they have made. Hands down the best pant.

I've been running the Kuiu katanas for years now. Has to be over 5 by now. I have absolutely loved them. I have 3-4 pairs. But the tinkerer in me never seems to rest. I've always found the kutanas to be a perfect blend of durability, breathability and fit for me. They also hold up exceptionally well. I seem to wear them year round and on just about any hunt except cold snow hunts when I break out the attack pants. I can't seem to recommend them enough. I have ordered SG de haviland lites this past summer and couldn't get over how poor the fit was on me. Sent those back. I use to run Kings XKG pants before the katanas and loved those, but the durability was lacking.

So the question is....what is your go to pants? What I liked about the kutanas is they were light enough to wear all spring, summer, and most the fall with no complaints. Is there an a pant you recommend that I need to try? Also, if they don't have hip vents, don't bother recommending them. I don't think I would consider ever buying another pair of pants without the vents. Game changing.

I would say find something else to spend your time on. The Katanas are a great pant and work for you.

I would love to be able to use the Kutana. Others I hunt with really like them. I’ve ordered my size 34 and up one size to 36. 36 has loose material and bunches around the waist but at the same time is tight tight on thighs standing normal and when stepping over logs or onto large rocks or a big uphill step are restrictive enough they almost cramp. Mine made it one day and went to the sale pile. Need more thigh room for anyone with LEGS.

Attacks fit slightly looser but also have a lot more stretch when needed particularly circumference of the thigh.
Tiburon more room than arracks by a hair and also stretch in circumference.
SG DH Lite fit with the most room. I have the original sizing and release. I wear these the most because of the huge vent, fit and all around warmer more mild pant.

Funny, I came to the clothing sub to ask about alternatives to the Kutanas. Some good ideas.

I was about to order some more Kutanas but it looks like they have dropped my favorite color: Buckskin.

Anyone know other pants that compete with the Kutanas that are also available in that color?

Looks like the Prana stretch Zions comer in two similar colors: Sepia and Retro Olive. Anyone know which is most similar to Kuiu's buckskin?

I am always on the lookout for new cool things but pants are not one of them. Every hunting pant I own is Kuiu, in my opinion their quality and fit are the best of any outdoor hunting pant.

There isn’t a better pair. I do the same thing, Kutana for almost everything and then switch to attacks when the high is 40s or below. I haven’t tried the newest iteration of kutana since they added the water proof panels. I’m hoping that’s an upgrade and not downgrade.

Maybe the fit is different. Didn’t realize they did that

Gear ho here that will jump on the newest thing without one shred of loyalty and yet I now have 6 pairs of Kutanas and they are all I wear for just about anything, going on 6 years now. They are as close to perfect as I've found, from -15* to 100* I layer under as needed and they just keep trucking and all of them still look brand new. I hunt in them every weekend of the year almost, and more days than not from September through February.
How old is your oldest pair? I have some OG kutanas. Maybe 3 or 4 years old? They're pilled really bad but I've used them for early pheasant much of their life.

Besides the aesthic of the piling. Mine are solid as well. And I actually found the 34 inseam to not be awful even though im 5'9.

My oldest two pairs are from 2019, I had them hemmed to 32" before the short inseam was an option. I don't have any noticeable piling on them.

My go to pants are the Attack pants. Bought my first pair in 2014. Originally in 34 waist. Then a few years ago they changed their sizing. Had to upsize to 36's . Have like 6 pairs of attack pants, for cold weather i run the Axis hybrids. Just recently I ordered some Kutana's. For me the Kutana's definitely fit different. The waist fits decent, but the legs are a little snug. Do other people have this issue?

You might try the Born Privative Terrain pant. The material feels similar, but the pocket layout is far better IMO.

Black Ovis pants are pretty nice if you don't need hip vents.

My beef with the BO pants is they are cut like skinny jeans and don’t fit over the tops of most boots.
