The 6 BRA is the third cartridge I reload (284 Win, 6 BRA, and 6.5 Grendel). I don't hunt with it as the 6.5 does just fine on deer, and hoping one day to use the 284 on Elk.I chose a 6 BRA and 7 Sherman Short mag shooting Berger hunting VLD.
Both cartridges are short fat, extremely efficient, easy to load for, and very accurate, with less change due to environmental conditions.
I handload everything I shoot long range, because I want control over everything I can. I typically try to buy enough components for at least half the life of the barrel, so I am not hurting even in this crunch. I have factory barrels I could spin on if I needed to go with something like .243, .308 or 6 creed and use factory ammo. The 6 BRA is the third cartridge I reload (284 Win, 6 BRA, and 6.5 Grendel). As for ammo availability, sure it's impossible to find the first two on the shelf. But there is a benefit recently to shooting oddball cartridges is that they're often the only ones you can still find. See below from my local Fleet Farm right after Thanksgiving (and just before deer hunting season) 280 Rem and 6.5 Grendel were basically all that was on the shelf:
