I've never drawn 2nd or 3rd. Of course when I was stationed there back in the mid 90s we were pretty much guaranteed to draw first choice archery in the unit we were applying for as residents. Have drawn first choice last year and this year. Of course we choose the same unit it's just our choices are different hunts in that unit. 1st archery, 2nd archery and then muzzy.

There is a method to the madness.

As a resident, I drew elk, deer, and Aoudad last year. Elk and deer this year. All 5 were my second or third choice. My brother has had similar results.

Drew 3rd choice Unit 17 Bull Elk muzzle loader this year. Lots of research ahead.

Only ever drew my first pick, but was picking units that weren't first pick caliber. Took me a while to figure the system out...

I never draw elk, deer archery I draw regularly, 2nd choice this year.

Need to reevaluate my method for elk I guess?
