Love that we are talking about first responder pay and not those poor underpaid politicians, actors, and athletes. That would be silly.
I’d be making 15$ an hour if that were the case. Here’s a question - if wages dropped 40% would the force still be full? I think it might be.
The point about EMS earning crumbs compared to firefighters is a good one… are EMS underpaid or fire overpaid? Yeah it’s not the same job but the trauma can be similar.
Anyway I’ve never worked and will never work a job where any moment my life may be on the line but I just found my dinner table discussion interesting. Of course our city has union!!
Walked many miles in the mil and never met anyone making 200k/year. Seems like theyre double paid and then some. Just match their pay to non-travel nurse jobs and bam. Win win.Really?
Walk a mile in their moccasins or for that matter in any first responder’s shoes.
Fire, EMS and law enforcement personnel all are subject to similar scrutiny when it comes fo pay.
Structural FF that stage on a fire are a joke. Wildland and structure are two very different beasts. Done both, I enjoy being out in the woods, but I am glad I work for a very aggressive structural departmentI always found it interesting when being a ff for the forest service that people would have such a hard time with us staging and waiting for a fire all the while praising their local fire department for doing the same thing and making a shit load more money than us.
For the record I rarely vote in favor of any levy that requires a raise in taxes to increase funds for any sort of government agency. Local, state, federal etc

Do threads like this correlate with the end of most hunting seasons? Are we gonna be looking at manscaping 2.0 in the next few days?
Ummm…I’ve got some bad newsAnd heaven forbid, I hope they ain't manscaping on duty........

Where is paying 200k a year for a Ff? Sign me up! Also I don’t know any dept that are allow guys to roll OT or vacation pay into there pensions anymore, that happened years ago and from what I understand was done away with$200k/yr to drink beer all day seems underpaid to me, especially when you consider that they’ll be forced to retire in 25 years with only 95% pension (on highest grossing years which include saved up vacation) with which to buy the beer

The same ones complaining we need to support out fd/le are the same crowd saying nurses are special. Blah blah blah.
Let me know why fd should be paid more than someone with a bsn, please.
I will speak to this since I am both an RN and a FF/paramedic. I made substantially more as a flight nurse than I do even now being an officer at my FD. I work longer shifts with less resources and more/higher expectations as a FF than I did as a nurse. So should I make more as a FF than a nurse, maybe not, but I definitely shouldn't make less either.Walked many miles in the mil and never met anyone making 200k/year.
