You've obviously not read the New Testament with its message of life, renewal and the promise of eternity that it offers. The complete antithesis of your words.

This is the typical argument from religious nuts....but but but the New Testament!!!! That dosent undo the brutality and horror of the Old Testament....

Anyways, sorry to derail this thread, hope
Everybody who needs help gets it.

*Sniff* ....not gonna take that rotten bait.

+1, Robby; mostly good intentions here for a guy we thought needed some kindness.

It was well
according to my mods, it was actually a woman!
I would love to know how they figured it out. I was so intrigued I tried to look for BiggMc and kept finding a BigGMC who seemed a bit more real. But BiggMc certainly had polite posts!

Interesting outcome.
Would someone please explain to the layperson how a thread like this would benefit a spammer?
Yeah, I'm a little confused as well. The slow pattern did not fit with most bots. I can see a spammer, though not clearly; I'm sure there are things that point to this that the mods can see and we cannot, such as PM activity.

Perhaps there is still some truth in the original post, or perhaps it is someone trying to generate content that knows they don't know enough about hunting to pull it off, so they us more generic content.

BiggMC's posts were all about one sentence and very short on detail. Enough so to be odd, however some people are just really poor communicators. It also fits with someone who recognizes their own lack of knowledge and decides that by saying less they are less likely to put their foot in their mouth. I could not see clearly, and as almost nothing was at stake chose to error on the side of trust.

The three year old account also through me for a loop. However, I can see someone creating a bunch of accounts and recognizing that newer accounts look more suspicious, so like aging whiskey you create them before you need them and let them sit while you burn through other ones. I have no source to say people do this, but it inherently makes sense to me.

Sometimes people are not completely logical either, deviant activity for deviance sake can be hard to spot because it does not fit within the normal patterns.

Regardless, I'm guessing. My interest in security makes me try to understand nefarious minds, but my own mind is more technical than human oriented, so I'm better at physical hardening of a target than the human side. The irony is the human element is the easiest to exploit, especially with modern technology.

I am sure Robby or Ryan would have a better idea but I would say one of two things...Older account with more posts=more creditability. So build an account for that and people are more likely to fall for the bait. Second one, is that an already existing account was hacked and the bot was just getting going.

Some spammers are pretty smart. There was a guy that made it to like 200 posts, all relevant to hunting and the topic. All he had was a link in his signature that said "do you want company?" or something like that. The link took you to an escort service.

A whole sub industry exists to build “credible” accounts and then flip them in packages to the sellers. This is someone that may very well spend time building fake accounts then they will go and market a package of 50,100,200 clean verified accounts that can in turn be sold to scammers etc... is a bit world of scumbags sometimes.

They will go around register a bunch of accounts then let them sit and mature, them make a bulk of posts 12,24,36 months etc... later to make them look more credible and finally flip them or activate them with the scam.

You can usually start to recognize them as they are generally one word reply’s that are accurate enough but somewhat generic. You can also see posts that do not make sense. One says new young hunter looking for first rifle and the next post is commenting on a stone sheep hunt they went on. Generally they are just harvesting information from older posts.

You really really really need to do your due diligence before making a large transaction. The good scammers are very savvy and not always just Chinese spam bots.

This seems like a likely explanation. The posts came in spurts approximately 2 weeks apart. There's plenty of anomalies, but just a general tendency I noticed.

I was leaning towards a bot due to the timing - on and off in a very short time, plus no "likes" or anything with respect to other posts - plus some of the language and grammar. Although we've all seen worse.

It is certainly an interesting lesson. I cannot remember where I read it (and it may have been on Rokslide or another forum), but a guy said always have the person write your user name on a sticky note and photograph the item with it. Not fool proof, but it at least verifies they have the item in hand.

@Pro953 has a great explanation.

For the people asking what benefit did misrepresenting herself as a member who needs support, a quick Google on her email popped up mental health results. Apparently she studies and is involved in mental health. A quote pulled from her bio, "...has covered topics related to depression, anxiety, stress, grief, various phobias, and difficult family circumstances."

Interesting, if she actually is a mental health professional she is playing with professional misconduct and ethics violations. There is a very narrow set of intentions that could be ethical, though the lack of follow up makes those unlikely. Which leaves her as fishing for vulnerable people with predatory motives.

Something new every day.

I think Robby hit on the important part - how the Roksliders responded. Not too many places you can go online these days where someone wouldn't have yelled jump by post 6. Kudo's to everyone who responded.

Thanks to Robby and Ryan (and all the moderators) for what they do to keep Rokslide a place we can take some pride in and enjoy coming to visit!
