2022 Rokslide Cold Bow Challenge Q&A Thread

Just Updated the challenge with another prize, this one also from @ktowncamo with a Black Ovis Custom ID Arrow Build

Ok got the Titanium SEVRs out Saturday and did some head to heads against the Vented Iron Wills, both are 100 gr.

I’ve done last 4 CBC with the Iron Wills but now that Idaho’s allowing expandable, I want to give them a try.

I shot about 80 arrows in 2-3 shot groups between Saturday and Monday in winds less than 8mph. I shot all these groups between 60 and 100 yards. (Actually brought my bicycle out to the range as it takes so long to walk off that many groups)

This is what I know:

First I was reminded just how well the IWs fly. I’d put a field point in a few of my sets and the IW hits with it, just slight lower at 60+.

I can only report a small decrease in group size with the SEVRs

It seemed on average, the SEVRs hit about a half module (on a Matrix) higher than the IWs. I like that as I lost about a module when I went to a 300 spine/445 gr arrow last year

On average, the SEVRs hit closer to the fp.

The SEVRs don’t penetrate much into the Matrix BUT this doesn’t mean they wouldn’t if I took them out of practice mode. Makes it nice to pull them.

Some pics from today. Had a wind from L to R when I was practicing at 60 but then it switched 180 degrees. I doped it at the longer yardages.

So next is a CBC with the SEVRs at 60.

I'm really excited to do the CBC this year. I'm running a fresh setup this year.
Bowtech SR350 @72 lbs, 29.5" arrow, 465 grain total weight, 4 Silent Knight 3" fletch with 2 degree right helical and a 4 solid blade fixed head.

I'm shooting 10" stab out front and 8" out the back.

This setup is a touch heavier than previous but it holds really well.

I will be doing 60 yards with my bread heads for my MER and using a 8" diameter circle. I feel that it is maybe a touch bigger than the kill zone on a deer but a touch smaller than an elk, so a happy medium.

Really hoping I do well with this setup.

My custom strings and cables should be here this week so I will be busy tuning, getting sighted in, and getting everything working good before the CBC

I remembered the other day that I really hate shooting out of blinds, I kinda suck at it too.

Might try that. Set a blind up, shoot out of it to 60-70 yards or something. See how many times my arrow goes thru the window instead of under it.

Looks like a solid set up Kyle . Glad you’re coming out for this man.

Also was gonna say that’s one thing I like about the CBC is that it forces me to get my gear ready sooner in the year. Takes the pressure off come summer.

Solid pass with the SEVRs

That’s been my experience with expandables in the past. They’re just more forgiving.

Is there a recurve cold bow challenge ? MER for me has been between 20-25 but totally understand if its for the compounders to fly a few past 60-70

MER is your personal range, not pre determined. I've shot 40 yards with a compound in previous years because it's all I was comfortable with after not shooting for a long time.

Went out today in 19 MPH winds with gusts @ another 7 MPH or so. and tried both my TRX38 and V3 31. I was surprised at how much better I shot with the V3. The wind has me thinking I may better of with the smaller V3. Because when is it "Not" windy in the mountains.

Gues I am shooting this CBC with the 31.

I liked the BH review Robby. I compared my Iron Will 125 and 150 S to Grim Reaper, micro pro Hades. The GR grouped so much better. I am switching this year. I have hunted IW for 5 or 6 years. I'm kind of scared. lol

@robby denning I'm guessing the pictures of iw, sevr, and fp the sevr is the orange vane. Same as what you are still shooting. Have you put it on a different arrow? Seems you got a heck of a group going with it at 6. Just curious if it's the arrow or the broadhead.

Yes, I shot it on my #5 arrow and #10 (that one that’s all orange vanes) before I settled on #10.

*Edit to clarify, …so on the 3 pics of the head to head in post #123, #10 was SEVR

And for the CBC in post # 128 is #10/ SEVR

Hit same place today. I’ve seen this accuracy with Expandables before.
