We walked too much for one rooster and one hun each. We saw 4 spawns from hell and both dogs got into the third one, Finn getting the worst of it in his front right leg. I got most quills out in the field but some broke off short that I had to give him a break from. I got five of those out in the hotel room after he settled. I may have lost one under the skin and he's limping around fairly sore. If he hadn't fought me some it wouldn't have been as tough to remove them all in the field. It wasn't the best way to end the day with him limping to the truck. He did run after the hun that I killed on the way back so he wasn't dieing.

Last bird of our limit , was a win for learning. She delivered everything to hand , sat quiet and didn’t break.

Conditions here are bad. Called a landowner on Friday, he said don't bother, anywhere there is any kind of cover is under 6 foot of snow. Nothing to hunt.

Called another and he said come give it a try, ALot of snow. I post holed for about 3 hours looking for anywhere that could hold a bird. I didn't find a single spot. This at a place two of my boys and I shot 9 roosters in less than an hour about a month and a half ago. I saw one set of pheasant tracks in the snow.

First picture is coming in his driveway.

Second pic, where my dog is standing, to the trees out front of him and everything to the left, is cattails that range from 4-6 foot tall. This is what every piece of cover on this farm looks like. It's a big farm.

Third picture. The trees are on top of a pond dam. The dam is about 10-12 foot from bottom to where trees are. The drifts are taller than the dam. Where the grass is sticking up is fireweed about 3 feet tall. Everything between me and the dam was pheasant cover. Tall weeds and cattails in a dry creek bed

Fourth pic. You can see right in front of me where the oats field ends and drifting starts. Everything in the pic is a dry creek bed/slough with 3-4 foot tall weeds and grass.

Opportunities to get out have been limited this season with the new baby in the house hold. When I have gotten out I focused on exploring new places closer to home. Empty bags all season until this last trip, while chasing roosters we jumped a mallard out of a creek. Scared the crap out of both of us (pup and me) but was able to hit home and Bennie boy had a nice blind retrieve. Also upgraded from the Orvis sling to the Final Rise Summit and am loving it so far.
