That's not good.Conditions here are bad. Called a landowner on Friday, he said don't bother, anywhere there is any kind of cover is under 6 foot of snow. Nothing to hunt.
Called another and he said come give it a try, ALot of snow. I post holed for about 3 hours looking for anywhere that could hold a bird. I didn't find a single spot. This at a place two of my boys and I shot 9 roosters in less than an hour about a month and a half ago. I saw one set of pheasant tracks in the snow.
First picture is coming in his driveway.
Second pic, where my dog is standing, to the trees out front of him and everything to the left, is cattails that range from 4-6 foot tall. This is what every piece of cover on this farm looks like. It's a big farm.
Third picture. The trees are on top of a pond dam. The dam is about 10-12 foot from bottom to where trees are. The drifts are taller than the dam. Where the grass is sticking up is fireweed about 3 feet tall. Everything between me and the dam was pheasant cover. Tall weeds and cattails in a dry creek bed
Fourth pic. You can see right in front of me where the oats field ends and drifting starts. Everything in the pic is a dry creek bed/slough with 3-4 foot tall weeds and grass.

Those right there are some happy dogs .Dreaming of going on their next hunt.Lots of walking up and down coulees. We started really slow but finally found birds in a few different locations. It was an unexpected finish to 2022.
