Yeah the season in South Central AK for grouse and ptarmigan runs through 3/31, so we are done close to home. But... I've got a couple tentative plans to fly out one place and drive up to another to hunt some more before the end of April. If the new pup isn't big enough to handle the temps up north of Fairbanks by the end of April, we'll probably fly up to Nome or Kotzebue to chase birds before it closes there on 6/15. Gotta do what we can to shorten the off season! The August 10 opener can't get here soon enough
What off season!? Sounds like you don't have much of one at all! I haven't been able to hunt anything but coyotes since 12/31! I miss hunting so much I've been eyeing up the neighbors cat lately...

Between spring/summer bears, fishing, and ptarmigan brood surveys starting mid July, the off season is pretty short... But not short enough!

Next time you should bring a designated photographer, just sayin'
As comfortable as having you in my lap in the back seat of the Super Cub might have been, not sure that the pilot would've been willing to take the extra weight! He took one look at my surfboard skis and boots and said, "Not this time"

This might end up being the closing bell for us this season. Maybe. I still am toying with an idea to get out again in NW AK before it closes there.

But the 2017 model turned 6 yesterday, so we decided to have a birdday party. Great opportunity for the new 10 week old 2023 edition to learn the game. Whaddya know? The new model points, honors, and even retrieves to an extent just like the old one. Funny thing how a well bred dog just has it baked in and is ready to go out of the box.20230429_124923.jpgIMG_20230430_184434.jpg20230429_165206.jpg20230429_165443.jpg20230430_095504.jpg20230430_095341.jpgIMG_20230430_184443.jpgIMG_20230430_184445.jpgIMG_20230430_184452.jpgIMG_20230430_184449.jpg
