Your Workout Attitude?

Guess I'm in the minority here. I'm about to turn 32 and have never really worked out. I've had spells of going to the gym for a few months but always end up quitting. I just can't stand being inside especially while it's nice out. I work mostly 12 hours shift (very sedentary job) so that's why I have a hatred for being indoors. I've been wanting to get back into the gym but I know it won't last once turkey season starts and the weather gets warmer. Normally I start after deer season which happens to be around the first of Jan and make it last until March. I didn't even do that this year.

I'm thinking about signing up for a big run to motivate me to start working out again. Back in 2015, I prepped for my upcoming elk hunt by running and hiking with a weighted pack. I don't feel that I suffered while up in the mountains of CO.

I took my daughter shed hunting last week and could do this type of exercise all day! There's just something depressing about being cooped up in a gym. Anyone willing to post up a simple routine for strength training?

I use a modified 3x5 program, modified as I only lift twice a week (they call for four) BUT I still do their basic (good compound) lifts- squats, deadlifts, bench press, barbell bent over row, overhead press and then add in core, pullups and dips

the workout takes easily under an hour, but it's a good one

most of my other days are spent on the trail running, I'm the same as you- I need to be outside and happen to be blessed with what I believe is the best trail system in the US right out my backdoor :)

Yes!

I do work out at least five days a week and enjoy it. I run 1-2 miles a day and have a weight training regime. I'm 37 and lost 54lbs last year in perpetration for a DIY Colorado hunt. I've managed to keep the weight off despite drinking enough to keep my guns in shape!

I'm 62 With 4 and 6 year old boys, stay at home dad. I was on a good workout routine until about 4 months ago. I got lazy through the holidays and have gained about 20 lbs. I want to get back into a workout routine so I'll be able to hunt and be active with the boys. Reading this thread and melting snow is getting me motivated to get going again. After a workout I always feel good about myself. It's easy to get lazy.

We had the flu bug around the office for the past month and I can't seem to shake the feeling of lethargy. I did do a 2.5 mile hike with 40 pounds in our flat lands of Northeast Florida yesterday. I try to do 100 pushups 3 to 4 times a week along with a 2.5 mile walk and I add squats and elliptical 20 to 30 minutes 3 times per week. I hate the elliptical because I am not going anywhere and my ADD kicks in. I get frustrated with not losing weight and I cannot run anymore to due metatarsal injuries but I can hike at a good pace.

Well my attitude has recently changed. A diagnosis of a degenerative hip has forced me to exchange the evening walk with a loaded pack to a morning swim. I'm still tacking the pup on an evening walk but I feel sort of dirty not wearing the pack.

My workouts used to be bodyweight stuff and run/bike. Did that for many years but always overate. Changed to a strict diet and triathlon training for a few years but didn't like how weak I felt. After a medical issue, I combined bodyweight and tri stuff for a year then started weights. Initially it was Stronglifts but it became too much volume and I had issues with some stuff. Found Starting Strength and like it better. After talking to a coach last year, he recommended staying with linear progression until a few months before my hunt then switch to running/biking (always did weighted hikes 2-3 days a week). I liked how it worked out and didn't feel undertrained when hunting. This year I'm staying strict with the LP until end of April then dropping it to 2x a week (heavy Monday, 80% Thursday) and run/bike/swim between. No hunt planned for this year but lookout next. BTW I'm 48.
