Here is the latest NWT re-opening plan. Phase 2 mid to late June. Maybe in Phase 3 NR sheep hunting would resume.

I sure hope it works out for you on your hunt. I know how much something like this means and like you when I got to go on a grizzly bear hunt above the Arctic Circle it was a dream come true. Keep the faith.

On Friday, the Alaskan Governor extended the mandatory 2 week quarantine for out of state people for another 2 weeks. I don't know of many people who can take off 2 weeks for a hunt and 2 more weeks for a quarantine.

For what it’s worth, I talked to a guide friend of mine in Alaska. He said the 2 week quarantine was being ignored and not enforced and his fishing clients are coming in.

Sounds like NWT is saying no outside visitors until a VACCINE. Crazy stuff. This sucks for so many people.

That’s exactly how I understand it as well. I spoke with a Dr friend who is also an avid sheep hunter. He says if that’s the criteria it will most likely never open since a vaccine for a virus is unheard of(paraphrasing).

these people need to lose rights to hunting and fishing in AK for life. Putting others at risk is disgusting at best. That guide should lose his license and people not following the rules should be banned for life.

IDK if I would take it to that extreme, but I agree, that is total BS in my opinion, and business that don't follow the rules/guidelines mandated by the state should be penalized heavily.

I almost find it comical that Alaska is taking such extreme measures. The place is so flippin remote that you only see people for a couple days. What exactly does staying in a hotel room for 2 weeks do? I would love to see what exactly a quarantine entails. The way I read it, you are to go to your hotel or lodging immediately. So if I am flying to my hunt location, does that satisfy my 2 week quarantine. If I had no plans of staying in a hotel, simply going from one airport to my final destination ( outfitter's camp/ lodge) is that okay?

Is a guy allowed to take an Uber to said lodge? If the state continues to stay locked down, people might as well just take their chances and lick a door knob laced with COVID. The whole state relies on tourism for their income. Whether it be cruises, hunting, fishing or sight seeing, that is a HUGE chunk of their income. I am glad AZ did not go to extreme measures like AK did. It's like people are ok with being forced into socialism. Common sense social distancing and some extra hygene measures will get us thru this. If you are one of the ones that fall into the HIGH risk of death categories, then maybe you should stay home and rely on the Gov't to keep you a float. The ones who are not a high risk should be free to go about how they want to.

One of the main reasons (to my understanding) as to why things got locked down so hard up here in AK is because so many people come here for tourism, I doubt there are many places in the USA that get as much tourism as AK....Hawaii probably, Vegas etc but another problem is there are so many remote locations that can be tough to get in or out of in a timely manner if there was a serious life threatening illness. Look at the people out in Bristol bay, towns of 3k people that got locked down, now they are about to get 5,000 people from outside there for the fishing season, one small hospital, 70 minute flight to anchorage. While I agree that the lockdown stuff is pretty overblown, I do think some of it is justified and has nothing at all to do with socialism or communism, anybody who thinks it does needs to stop reading Facebook memes and go read a book and learn what socialism really is.

I will stay on topic and say that if Alaska continues down this same path thru fall, the economic impacts to the state will far outweigh the death toll from COVID. I understand the healthcare logistics of Alaska are different than smaller, more urban cities. If you agree with this continuation of a lockdown and quarantine, when do you think it should end. We are not going to have a vaccine in the near future. A cure is probably just as far away. Do you think Alaska should just shut down until we have a cure or vaccine? Just my opinion on the matter. Lots of outfitters will fold up, airlines will fold or be forced to rely on the gov't to continue, hotels will certainly go belly up and the effects keep going. AK has 10 deaths and 400 confirmed cases.... Maybe not as deadly as everyone thinks.... I will take the odds of if I get it, I have a 97.5% chance I beat it VS. losing my business and ability to provide for my family.

I don’t care what people from the lower 48 think the impact is going to be to our economy. When this is all said and done it will be business as usual. Our economy (not that is any of your business) will come back. The demand for sheep hunts isn’t going away. So what if we miss a year? For every outfitter that will go out of business another will take its place. And I highly doubt any will go out of business.

The sheep hunts will happen in August. Don’t worry about it. Worry about the important stuff in life. What gun to take, what pack to take. Does my camo top match my camo bottom?

I just ran a marathon in training for my alaska hunt. Just heard if you get off a plane there is a 2 week quarantine period. I'm hoping that is not in place in August.

It will not be in place come August. I'll bet anyone a 100 bucks it will not. Any takers? I prefer paypal F&F, if not add 3%.

Whether you think this is ok or not, this is the type of stuff that will ruin in for everyone. Once big brother finds out guides aren’t following the mandates, they will just enforce them by closing NR hunting and fishing seasons. I would be absolutely pist about this if I was a guide or client hoping for fall season.

Some people would say unconstitutional “orders” by a tyrannical government should be ignored. Also, if the government really meant it, they would enforce it I would think.
Just like the police did to the barber shop owner and protestors yesterday. They said “You are in violation and with that having been said, have a good day” and left.

Just announced, the US/Canada border closed for another 30 days.
Yup the Canadians will only let "essential" people drive through Canada. I know someone who flew here from the lower 48 and tried to drive out of AK through Canada with their adult child yesterday. Canadians would not let them in/through. Said the Parent that lived in the lower 48 was "non-essential" but the Adult Child that was moving from AK to the lower 48 could drive through alone. This was after many phone calls talking with the Canadians before embarking on the journey. They were told it would be ok. They had to turn around and drive back.
