What's Your Non-Truck Hunting Rig?

I started out hunting out of a 1998 Subaru Forester back in the day. That ol beast is long gone but now I have a 95 Legacy Wagon that I will take, roads permitting. If I can afford to leave the 02 Tundra parked and save on some gas I definitley will!

What are your guys' non-truck rigs that you take out?

I got out of a full size pickup several years ago and actually prefer a smaller SUV now. I had an Xterra, but now have a 4Runner. I love being able to sleep in the back on weekend hunts. On more extended trips or family camping trips, I use this M101 trailer that I put together. The trailer gives me the ability to have basically a full size longbed box so it’s a pretty flexible setup for me.

With seats down I can sleep in the back. Holds all my gear and can go any place I need to. Gets great gas mileage too.

I’ll probably leave the pickup home and take the wife’s daily driver this year. Jeep Unlimited Rubicon. Especially if it’s easy to remove/replace the rear seat, the mountain bike fits and I can sleep in there. A little Subaru does look attractive but the Jeep bone stock clearance is great and I like the lockers & sway bar disconnect. I don’t do a bunch of “wheeling” but it’d be nice if it could save me a little packing distance. Some of the “roads” to trailheads had me clenching in the pickup last year.

I’m lucky enough to live close enough to where I hunt that if I don’t want to take the truck, or get there fast then I just pull one of the 4-wheelers out of the shed. Small enough town that nobody cares if you drive them in town. I see them on Main Street all the time.

Always take my truck on longer trips, but had a 2000 Accord I would take if I wasn't staying overnight. My usual day trip was 240 miles there and back so I could save some fuel money over the diesel. I never killed anything while driving it so didn't get to test out the best way to haul a carcass on that rig.

My 2012 Sprinter van has been an ideal hunting vehicle. Bed in the back, insulation, heat and lightly camperized makes 1500mile trips within BC much easier then finding hotels to stay in or setting up a tent somewhere. Great place to spend the last night before a 10 day hunt and even better place to come back exhausted to. It's hauled Elk, sheep, more black bear and deer then I can remember. All inside, out of the rain and snow, no worries of a grizzly nosing their way into a tent. I've just ordered a replacement 4x4 model of the same van, hoping to get another 10-15 years out of this next one too.

It isn’t the best on gas (which is the point of this thread) but it is not a truck.

Works great for 1 but crowded for 2.

‘99 land cruiser. I use a hitch rack like sapcut posted or I just put heavy duty totes in the back and put critters In them, usually in quarters. I like sleeping in the back too. Way more comfortable than most trucks on rough roads and more capable too.

Subaru Forester with Toyo tires and the seats layed down flat wen my kid's car seat isn't in it.

30 mpg and goes lots of places.

2006 pilot. I’ve had just as many dead animals in my everyday driver, the Pilot than my 99 Dodge Ram. I was Honda tech for 12 years and I’m trying to keep that pilot running as long as I can.

Not a truck, but kind of..... 2005 suburban with 3rd row removed, and 2nd row folded down.. great option to a truck.
