I found a complete rifle. It was leaning against a tree on private ground that we hunted for years.Always figured it belonged to a poacher
that got scared off somehow. It had been there awhile but I still have it.It was loaded and ready to go,,,7mm mag.
How do you explain that to the wife?Went hunting and misplaced my gun,,,duh

I've lost my rangefinder TWICE, each time I was able to relocate it but it took over an hour both times. Sunglasses, lose them all the time. Almost lost my boots once because I took them off for a stalk and could not find them for awhile after it was over.

Wedding ring, that happened to also be my father's ring. I'll be heading back to where I think I lost it once the snow melts...

While packing out my elk last year I strapped my practically brand new mountain hardware sleeping bag to the outside of my pack. When I arrived at my truck the bag was no longer attached to my pack. I'm sure the slick nylon stuff sack caused it to slide out. When I went back up for the final load I searched for it, but couldn't ever find it. I'm sure a family of chipmunks have themselves a very nice home now. I will now be running a strap through the draw cord from now on. HA

I set my pack down amongst some boulders for a stalk that took me longer and farther than expected. Then the fog rolled in. Searching for it made me feel like an idiot.

When I was 15 years old I lost a $250 camo daypack that had knives, game bags, a fleece jacket, food, flashlights, ect....... I put it down to go on a stalk at last light. When we went back to get it, it was dark out and we did not have any flashlights with us as they were in my pack. We looked for 3 days but never found it. We figured a bear must have found it and carted it off. I will never buy another camo backpack again!

I had a Sitka 90% coat fall off my pack while looking for sheds. The older one with the hood, man I loved that coat.

I thought it would be funny to find it the next year, when I arrived the next year I laughed as there was a forest fire in the exact area.

My uncle used to make and sell very nice custom knives. He gave me one as a gift when I was 15 and it slid out of it’s sheathe somehow on a stalk. I didn't realize it until I was home.

It didn't cost me any money but it held a tremendous amount of sentimental value.

Temporarily lost my partners 629PD 44mag I had strapped to my pack with just the holster clip. I had dropped the pack with gun still attached in order to put a stalk on a 'bou. Once we got in position I was stuck at about 275yds. My buddys camera died at that point while he was digiscoping the 'bou. Extra batteries were in my pack so he ran back to retrieve it. It was probably couple hundred yds, maybe a 1/4 mile away. Anyhow, I look down at my pack and see the holster missing. His face when white when I asked where the gun was. I have no idea how, because it was raining and we were surrounded by knee/waist high Alaskan scrub brush and had no idea where the pistol had fallen off. Somehow he miraculously found it after probably 45mins of searching. Man was I glad to see that thing again....thought for sure it was a goner.

After that he ended up popping the 'bou with his rifle. Then to end off the day we tried to double up on the little alpacka raft to get back across the river that was now raging due to all the rain. About 3/4 across we hit a rock, I flipped out, got my foot caught in the webbing and in my struggle to shake free I lost my havalon in the river. Knife was lost for good. My partner had also submerged his sheep cape and had his meat in a cooler but submerged in the river. Prior to our 5 hour caribou foray the water was pretty low and moderate. Needless to say the cooler with all this sheep meat was washed away. Amazingly we saw a big white spot a couple hundred yards down the river. Sure enough it was the cooler, it had gotten washed into some rocks, was still upright and didn't have a drop of water in it. His cape was still submered in the garbage back on the river bank, under about a foot of water now but still there. We were very lucky that day to have only lost a $30 knife.

I hopped a fence this season accessing some WDFW land and since I was scouting it I just threw my leica 1200 in my front pocket and gun on my shoulder vs my pack that has the case on the belt, didn't see any animals but looked promising. Back at camp Dad and I were discussing where to go I wanted to go somewhere else but dad liked that WDFW spot I really didn't want to go back but for some reason I agreed. So we drove to the spot four hours after we had left and I was loading my pack and guess what I couldn't find. The rangefinder had fallen out if my pocket when I jumped back over the fence. It wasn't so much the value of the range finder ,which would have been expensive, but the lose if ability to shoot longrange. It would have pretty much ruined the hunt which would have been the most expensive part of the loss. I ended up shooting a deer at very longrange so basically dad saved the hunt.

I've lost a few pair of Oakleys on my caps. One set flew off while trail riding, and the other one fell off after I took my hat off to wipe sweat off my head from the hot nm desert while hunting mullies. I lenty a buddy my Petzyl headlamp this year and he managed to lose that, so from now on I have them being their own gear.
