What’s the best advice you’ve been given?

As soon as you can afford it, retire. I listened. I did it at age 53. I'm not rich, but I could afford to do it.

And to go along with that thought. Other than health, the greatest asset you have is time. But time is a fickle thing. Once it's gone it's gone. You can't bank it.

"Don't work too damn hard!"...
Last words my Grandfather told me after "love you so much" on his death bed...Didnt start to stick until recently.
I'm sure there's alot of folks who work harder or longer than I do...but I dont know many. Its not quite translated into the success I'd hoped it would and that has been haunting me the last couple years trying to reach goals that seem to keep eluding me...wondering if its time to slow down and try to actually enjoy life and do more things because I WANT TO....not because I feel I HAVE TO.
We only get so many days...and you never know which will be your last.
Be diligent in what you do, but don't forget to enjoy life before it passes you by.

Sage advise. I did too, at 53. Now 61 and have never looked back. It was 8 years ago today I left Boeing for the very last time. I love doing nothing. Hunting and fishing, and hell, even grocery shopping during the week is great.

!00% agree. I got out at 58. I was going to hang it up at 55, but I really enjoyed what I was doing, and looked forward to going to work. I told the wife I going to stay at it until someone pisses me off, Then the service manager pissed me off, so I got out.

Best ones I was told:

-"Floss and stay regular", in other words take care of yourself
-"Walk the other way when someone has great ideas for your money"

I don't remember where I heard this one, but it sticks with me.

"Never trust a man who's ass is wider than his shoulders"
