I don't think it's something to be panicked about. Take precautions to keep yourself safe but I feel the media is causing more harm than good with the situation.
I read an economics paper that said a human life is valued at something like $9 million. At some point the pain of millions of people unable to pay their bills is going to overshadow the pain of people not seeing their 87th birthday. Where that is I don't know, but if this does continue to increase, and I'm not convinced it will, that change in attitude will happen.
That's a condensed version of a comment I read earlier today. I think there is a lot of wisdom in it. The economy is crashing. You can judge people for not being financially astute but that doesn't change what happens when they become desperate, and that's just the well off we are talking about. The working poor are about to freak out. Sooner than later.
Heres some great information on the virus compiled mostly from the world health organization:
https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus
If you are under the age of 59, and have no pre-existing health conditions, and you catch COVID-19 then you have approximately a 2% chance of survival. As age increases, and pre-existing health conditions increase, then obviously so does your chance of this virus being deadly.
2% chance of survival? - that cannot be right. I hope you mean 98% chance of survival and 2% chance of it being deadly.
Oh no man haven’t you heard it’s going to take out 2.5 million of us. The experts say so.
For there being so many internet experts in this thread there sure is a whole lot ofstupidridiculousness.
Malaria is not caused by a virus- its actually a parasite- a number of different parasites in the plasmodium family to be specific, depending on the malarial subtype.
Interestingly though- you are correct that people are trying chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine (both quinine derivatives) with some positive results as potential treatments for covid-19. So drink up my friend

Me after reading the statistics: "I have no chance at getting the COVID19 and if I do I will for sure live."yes, sorry, 98% survival rate, or 2% chance of not surviving.
The generational divide on this is Fascinating.
Not to be coldhearted but I think it’s some what hilarious the boomer generation is telling Gen X and millennial’s not to be selfish and it’s not about them.
example this gem on the other site.
“Yea I am a crabby old man that yells at kids. Was out in the driveway rotating tires and the guy down the road walk down with his 3 kids. I told him to just keep them 6 feet away. He gets a phone call and while he is yapping 3 kids from across the street come running out and start mingling with the others. I yelled "get out of here and stay away from anyone that is not your family" They looked at me like I was the grim reaper... I get it, they don't understand this. The guy gets off the phone and apologizes. I point at his 3 kids, on the grass in a pile rolling around laughing. and say "gee, wonder why they closed the schools" True story. I read a good article from a mother in Italy on her regrets of the last 3 weeks and she talked about how they did not control their stir crazy teens and let them run in the streets and others houses because they don't get sick. Understand it now, they don't get sick but they will make the older people sick.”
Certainly seems like we are in this for a while, BTW...anyone know if these are flushable? Asking for a friend. View attachment 162899
You’re not wrong. A lot of my friends and I have reduced our mortgage to a 15 year at sub 3% rates and we are also investing as the market goes down. Long term it’s going to make a big difference and we are just small fish.Situations like this is how the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. The rich are shopping for deals while the poor are taking a beating.
Hep C is a virus for which there is a cure (more than 1 actually), but go on.
