Heres some great information on the virus compiled mostly from the world health organization:

https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus

If you are under the age of 59, and have no pre-existing health conditions, and you catch COVID-19 then you have approximately a 98% chance of survival. As age increases, and pre-existing health conditions increase, then obviously so does your chance of this virus being deadly.

I read another article yesterday issued by the CDC that estimated upwards of 40% of COVID-19 cases in the united states would never get documented because the symptoms would be so minor that people wouldn't get tested, or even know. Data shows that in japan, 81% of cases showed very minor symptoms. The chance of ongoing health conditions is estimated at its worse, to be 1 in 6, and those ongoing conditions would be decreased lung function. However those ongoing health conditions are seen more in the higher age groups than the lower age groups.

At some point the pain of millions of people unable to pay their bills is going to overshadow the pain of people not seeing their 87th birthday. Where that is I don't know, but if this does continue to increase, and I'm not convinced it will, that change in attitude will happen.

That's a condensed version of a comment I read earlier today. I think there is a lot of wisdom in it. The economy is crashing. You can judge people for not being financially astute but that doesn't change what happens when they become desperate, and that's just the well off we are talking about. The working poor are about to freak out. Sooner than later.
I read an economics paper that said a human life is valued at something like $9 million.

2% chance of survival? - that cannot be right. I hope you mean 98% chance of survival and 2% chance of it being deadly.

The generational divide on this is Fascinating.

Not to be coldhearted but I think it’s some what hilarious the boomer generation is telling Gen X and millennial’s not to be selfish and it’s not about them.

example this gem on the other site.

“Yea I am a crabby old man that yells at kids. Was out in the driveway rotating tires and the guy down the road walk down with his 3 kids. I told him to just keep them 6 feet away. He gets a phone call and while he is yapping 3 kids from across the street come running out and start mingling with the others. I yelled "get out of here and stay away from anyone that is not your family" They looked at me like I was the grim reaper... I get it, they don't understand this. The guy gets off the phone and apologizes. I point at his 3 kids, on the grass in a pile rolling around laughing. and say "gee, wonder why they closed the schools" True story. I read a good article from a mother in Italy on her regrets of the last 3 weeks and she talked about how they did not control their stir crazy teens and let them run in the streets and others houses because they don't get sick. Understand it now, they don't get sick but they will make the older people sick.”

For there being so many internet experts in this thread there sure is a whole lot of stupid ridiculousness.

This thread and the internet are nothing.........just look at the media and society in real time if you want to see some real ridiculousness. And we may even go right from ridiculousness to ludicrousness.

Malaria is not caused by a virus- its actually a parasite- a number of different parasites in the plasmodium family to be specific, depending on the malarial subtype.

Interestingly though- you are correct that people are trying chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine (both quinine derivatives) with some positive results as potential treatments for covid-19. So drink up my friend

yes, sorry, 98% survival rate, or 2% chance of not surviving.
Me after reading the statistics: "I have no chance at getting the COVID19 and if I do I will for sure live."

Me after reading the statistics: "This is my year to draw an AZ elk tag and when I do I am shooting a 380 inch bull."

And what does that crabby old fart think is actually gonna happen if he gets it? If he's able to rotate tires he probably wouldn't even know he had it if not for the media hysteria. I'm a crabby old man too at 64, but this virus hysteria is more of a pain in the ass than the virus itself.

Situations like this is how the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. The rich are shopping for deals while the poor are taking a beating.
You’re not wrong. A lot of my friends and I have reduced our mortgage to a 15 year at sub 3% rates and we are also investing as the market goes down. Long term it’s going to make a big difference and we are just small fish.

Hep C can be treated so that the levels become undetectable. If still undetectable after 3 months it’s considered permanent ...but you never know...

hep a and b have a vaccine. I’ve gotten it due to some work I used to do.

Utilities across the country are starting to divide there employees in half......on a week off a week, so one person doesn’t infect an entire department........think about that for a minute folks, especially city residents.
