This site seems to be the most up to date (and easiest to read). You can also click on other countries data near the bottom. So far the predictions of the cases/deaths doubling every three days is about right. The last couple of days it's actually going faster.

Holy cats! My wife(smart person) has been monitoring that site. It is everywhere now. Very nervous as to how the third world will be effected. Could be very bad. The numbers out of Italy indicate to me their intentions to step up triage protocols definitely went into effect with expected results.

I am front line for this. Not willing to talk about my job, but I am in the thick of it. Or at least will be shortly. Ugh. Thinking about quarantining myself in the camper for a bit.

I wonder how this would all look if we really knew how many cases there were (most of the confirmed cases are from people who were already in bad shape.... they aren't testing here without a doctor referral)

I also would like to see what the seasonal flu looks like in relation to this.... the numbers seem big and bad until you start comparing it to other things, like flu stats.... I had no idea the seasonal flu was so deadly..

if we knew the true number of folks infected, vs death rates, it would be a pretty damn high survival rate.....

if the seasonal flu was highlighted by the media as something different than we are used to (but still the regular old flu) it would cause the same type of reaction, because we don't keep track of those numbers, and since we don't, 30-60,000 deaths sounds like a very horrific event, but we don't think much of it..... certainly don't think of it as something that will kill that many people in a year.

So Kansas is saying: “... only those hospitalized would be tested for the virus. People with mild symptoms will not be tested.”

DP, this MIGHT(??) be because for mild cases, no point(?) in testing? There is no treatment or cure at the moment, so if mild the treatment is the same whether tested or not - 14 days self quarantine I believe.

My guess would be that with limited testing supplies available they want to know if critical cases are positive so they can adjust medications and antivirals specific to Covid-19. If you aren't critical it doesn't matter and you should just isolate regardless. Just a guess.

My friends wife died of the flu last year. She was mid 40's, in great shape, no real health issues. They were on the road traveling, she got sick, they spent the night in a hotel and the next day went to the ER. She was admitted and died the next day. Life is fragile and not to be taken for granted.

I live in a county of 8500, the hospital has 15 tests. I'd venture to say there is almost zero meaningful data out there other than death rate of confirmed cases.

I totally get the why, you guys nailed it. But the engineer in me hates it because now I know the data is absolute garbage.

Ya, junk data. Concerning are the 475 new deaths in Italy today despite weeks of isolation/quarantine and the presence of the virus in just about every country on planet Earth.

This is what we should be worried about. The lack of testing in the US is absolutely unbelievable. With widespread testing we could contain people who actually have the disease vs containing an entire country and suffering the dire economic consequences that come with that. Italy, economically, is probably finished. The model is South Korea. Our pathetic testing and containment of the virus in the US is certain to cost us more than it has already.

We need to test EVERYONE! and be willing to test them again, and again if needed. This is why S. Korea is getting a handle on things. They are testing everyone they can and isolating everyone with a positive test. That means all of you mild and asymptomatic people get quarantined and aren't out spreading it!

We just don't have enough tests yet to do this

Anyone heard about the gun ownership questionnaire that accompanies the covid 19 test? Maybe they will be taking guns from those testing positive?

trust me, I get that.... life is precious, yet day to day life if full of hazards.... your friend's wife is a tragic freak thing, an unlucky outlier. we pretty much ALL know someone who was healthy but died of something, i know lots of them.... that's not my point, wasn't trying to sound cold, it's an honest question.

times like this we either have to act scared or offend people, there is no in between it seems.... we cannot have an objective conversation, because you're bound to offend someone.
